Smollet's social media history shows that he has been a rabid anti Trump hater for quite awhile which made me cynical about his alleged assault claim allegedly perpetrated by racist homophobic MAGA supporters from the beginning.

It stood out to me as a potential hoax designed to discredit Trump and the whole MAGA movement.

Amazing that Harris used this as a springboard to push the anti-lynching legislation... almost perfect timing.

Agreed. And I believe IL already has hate crime law, so he should get enhanced sentencing for that. Obviously his hatred of Trump (and by extension Trump supporters with the "MAGA country" nonsense) is what fueled this. That should fit the definition of a hate crime, and if found guilty he should feel the full weight of the law.

I've mentioned before that people who create hoaxes in order to unfairly demonize individuals or whole groups of people born out of their own unbridled hatred do just as much damage to perpetuate the civil discourse in this country as those that actually do perpetrate hateful acts on other individuals.

We don't need that kind of garbage in this country right now or ever for that matter.
