I don't follow along with the whole Intellectual Property idea...
Is the person that invented the wheel, the only one authorized to make it?

Aren't all of the store brand items just replicates from a name brand item, only they are cheaper and sometimes not quite as good, but sometimes may be better?
One company makes the first directional guided GPS for a vehicle, so no other GPS manufacturers are allowed to?
I believe intellectual property is a weak attempt to monopolize on something to keep the price high for their profit margin, yet when multiple competing companies are all making the very same item, drops the price for the consumer and makes the product improved by those companies that wish to sell the highest quality product.
It just so happens that I own one of those ripoff kydex holsters made by the shark guy and I am completely happy with the quality, although when I first got it at the show, I did not have my G27 with me to make sure it fit, so once I got it home and tried it out, my Glock would fall out simply by turning the holster upside down. I took it back along with my Glock and he adjusted it for me and have not had any issues since.
I have taken it canoing and I can run with it without fear of losing my Glock.

It would be one thing if they were attempting to improve an existing product, but in this case it appears they copied the design, but completely missed the point of that design. This is evident in the lack of a pointy end, which is meant to aid in one-handed removal if the paracord isn't present.

"Intellectual Property Rights" aside, that company does nothing more than copy what Raven produces (by extensive and costly R&D), and they can't even produce a better version themselves.

Perhaps you'd feel differently if you were to put a great deal of time and effort into bringing something new to the marketplace only to have someone copy your work, undercut your prices and steal your business.

There is some validity to what you say and that is the reason patents are limited in their duration. It provides those willing and capable of coming up with something new the time to benefit from their work. Without this you must rely on innovation purely for the benefit of everyone which is commonly known as socialism. That is not what this country is founded on.

If there is no reward or benefit to those willing to put the work in then the work will cease to be accomplished. This benefits no one, including those with no ethics who copy others work as well as those willing to buy it to save a few bucks.

The sad truth is that when you develop a product or idea, it's yours to lose unless you take the right avenues to protect your IP. If it's a big enough financial threat, you might want to consult a patent lawyer, not necessarily to file a lawsuit, but to have them cease and desist production and sales.

<- Not a lawyer, but an engineer that has limited experience with this.

I am not a big fan of Imaginary Property either, but the neither do I approve of outright ripoffs of design.

In most cases the ripoff artist is copying look and feel but cutting quality so they can offer a lower price. Looks like what is happening here. Some people care enough about quality, so the thing to do is point out why your product is better and sell to them. Unless the stakes are extremely high hiring an IP attorney is a losing proposition.

A good example is https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...fubar_tactical_pants_from_la_police_gear.html. A long thread celebrating purchasing a 100% ripoff of a higher quality product. Someone even came along and pointed that out, and the response was that the original is too expensive.

There is nothing to be done about that, really. Some people want quality and some people want lots of stuff for cheap. You can either serve both markets or leave one to someone else.

Ok, so now I'm curious... I purchased a kydex holster from someone at the 1500. Usually has a little area hidden with curtains, and has a hot little wife/girlfriend working with him. I don't recall names well, so I have no idea which side of this argument I'm on! Any help?

This is what is driving away innovation and the desire to bring new products and services to market.

I thought competition and free-market were the key elements of increasing innovation and the desire to better your products or service to the market.

Minus of course direct stolen intellectual or patented property.

Man, maybe Raven ought to get a set of TaTa's in their booth? Seemed to work on at least two guys in this thread!
