    Got a bunch of iris (and thistles) cut down and blown out into the yard to be mulched. I may mow down the big row of peonies that are way past their prime today too. There's some live forever that are still blooming mixed in, but they're nothing to write home about so they can go too as far as I'm concerned.

    At this point, five or six weeks from freezekill, I say anything struggling to shine, goes away.
    Saves doing it later when it might be messy out.

    Agreed! Need to mulch up some leaves too. Lord knows the grass doesn't need mowing.
    Last year, I did the opposite of my current advice, waiting for those last few blooms to open.
    Then it turned to winter overnight and I had some perennials to trim in spring. Don't want that mess again.
