Bloomington - An Indiana University student faces felony charges after police say he pulled out a loaded handgun in a bar.
Alexander Brill, 21, was arrested early Saturday morning at Kilroy's Sports Bar.
Witnesses told police Brill started arguing with a woman at the bar and several men stepped in to help her.
Police say Brill felt threatened and pulled out a gun to push back the crowd. Investigators say Brill was armed with a fully loaded .45 with a round in the chamber and a second magazine in his pocket.
Brill faces felony charges of battery and intimidation with a deadly weapon and pointing a firearm.
Police say Brill had a permit for the gun

....On a related note, hundreds - if not thousands - of licensed Indiana handgun, rifle, and shotgun owners went about their lives as responsible adults.

It's chumps like that who give other permit to carry holders a bad rap. The perfect story for the media to pounce on.

No, it is chumps like that who give males a bad rap...chumps like that who give beer drinkers a bad rap...chumps like that who give students a bad rap...

    From the HT:

A 21-year-old man faces preliminary felony weapons charges after reportedly brandishing a loaded gun at a crowd in a downtown bar and striking one patron with the gun.
Alexander Edward Brill, 21, of 104 E. Kirkwood Ave., was arrested by Bloomington police and booked into Monroe County Jail at 2:50 a.m. Saturday on preliminary charges of battery while armed and intimidation with a deadly weapon, both Class C felonies, and pointing a firearm, a Class D felony. Bond was set at $5,000 surety, $500 cash. He remained in jail Saturday night.
According to Sgt. Jim Batcho, Bloomington police were called to the complaint of a man waving a gun at a bar on the 300 block of North Walnut Street around 2:45 a.m. Saturday.
When officers arrived, they found Brill in a nearby alley, surrounded by bar employees, with his hands in the air, Batcho read from officer Jeff Rees’ report of the incident.
Brill told police he had a gun on his right hip, a loaded magazine of bullets in his front left pocket and a knife in his front right pocket.
Police found those weapons in a search, Batcho said, specifically a loaded Smith and Wesson .45-caliber automatic handgun.
Brill also had a valid Indiana personal protection handgun permit, Batcho said.
Brill, an Indiana University student, told police he brought the gun to the bar for his own protection, as he has been in fights in Bloomington before and has been injured.
While he was speaking with a girl he has “history with” at the bar, five men approached and began verbally taunting and harassing him, Brill told officers. He said he was afraid and pulled out the gun for his protection, Batcho read from the police report. Batcho said police collected three written statements from witnesses at the scene, including one bar employee who said Brill pointed the gun at her and at the crowd. Another man told officers Brill struck him with the gun when he tried to diffuse the escalating situation between Brill and the woman he was speaking with.

No law about guns in bars.. in the thousands of other bars around the state people did not pull out a gun..

    IC 35-47-4-3
    Pointing firearm at another person
Sec. 3. (a) This section does not apply to a law enforcement officer who is acting within the scope of the law enforcement officer's official duties or to a person who is justified in using reasonable force against another person under:
    (1) IC 35-41-3-2; or
    (2) IC 35-41-3-3.
    (b) A person who knowingly or intentionally points a firearm at another person commits a Class D felony. However, the offense is a Class A misdemeanor if the firearm was not loaded.
    As added by P.L.296-1995, SEC.2.

From what I can tell he got in an argument with a girl......... some people tried to break them up and he pulled a gun and pointed it....... not wise....

From what I can tell he was the agressor...... hard to jurify pulling your gun when you are the agressor.

He said he felt threatend, did the people have weapons, chaires, bottles, pool ques? Did they threaten him verbaly? Was he backed into a corner? Did he feel he could safely just walk away without being attacked by one or more of the people in the group?
The people who say he pointed the gun at them, did he realy point it at them or do they just think he did or are they anti gun and are just saying that. I'm not saying he didn't point it at somone. I'm just saying that he may not have waved or pointed it at those people that claim he did.
I'll wait to see what the courts decide. Inocent until Proven Guilty.
