My Dad always told me that postal vehicles always have the right of way because there could be a world changing time sensitive something or other in the truck. I would think that it would be unlikely these days, but just a rule from a bygone era.

I believe postal service has the right of way because they are federal and not a llocal agency. That's the way I've always heard it at least.

Actually the usps is not a federal agency, but a federal corporation iirc.
