Cool, good to know. Is it open to the public, and if so, can I get an address?

    American Legion Post 485
    7485 Burr Street
    Schererville

Generally, American Legion Posts are not open to the public.
But for fundraisers such steak frys, pork chops, spaghetti, etc the Post is open to the public.

From the intersection of Taft and US 30, go WEST on US 30
Till you hit Burr Street. There is a Walgreens and BP gas on the corners.
    Go NORTH.
    Past one stop sign.
It will be a white building up on a hill, on the EAST.

So is this a fundraiser, or just a regular legion dinner?

    It is a fundraiser.
Specifically, this one is for the Sons of the American Legion.
No, they are not a bunch of kids.
Just means they had a Dad or Granddad in the military.
They help support the Post, fix stuff, donate money to veterans charities. Stuff like that.

I am eligible for the SAL. But I spend so much time as a full member of the Post, that I don't really have time for the SAL.
But I do support all subgroups of the Post and try to attend all their fundraisers.
American Legion, Auxiliary, SAL, and Legion Riders.

To visit a Legion when there is no fundraiser, you just need someone to sign you in as a guest.

If the Excise Police find non-members in, that are not there for a fundraiser, or not signed in as a guest, they (Excise) will levy an expensive fine to the Post, or revoke its liquor license.

In looking at some previous posts, freedom arms is owned by Wally from Midnight Blue Towing. He's ok to deal with but ur better off going somewhere else. Westforth has always treated me good so I continue to go back. You also might wanna check out South County Guns in Cedar Lake. Talk to Greg. They are located on 41 next to Zuni's and Fuel Fitness. South County Gun Co.

Oh course it's been almost a year since stepping foot in his store but his stock is limited, and the old man I talked to didn't know much, if anything about guns. It was more of a bait and tackle shop. I stopped by his stand early this year at the Valpo Gun Show and Wally himself wasn't willing to deal on anything ( new or used). It's just one of those things, when you get a bad taste in ur mouth it stays with ya. Don't get me wrong though. Wally is a good guy. I deal with him in the towing aspect a lot but if he isn't willing to "hook me up" then I'll spend my $$$ elsewhere!
