The USPS is embedded in our culture and many Americans still depend on it. It is the only service of its kind that will still deliver practically anywhere. It would be politically impossible to abolish it. Heck, I would probably miss it too.
I just don’t understand how junk mail is legal really. It’s also very wasteful.

Most of my junk mail comes in the form of credit card/personal loan "pre approvals" and they all seem to use the same envelope vendor. I throw them away without even opening. I suppose it's possible I've thrown away something important but usually they'll end up contacting you some other way or use a less mysterious stationary next time.

    Don't throw away.
Most have a return pre-paid envelope.
Rip up the form, insert in the pre-paid envelope and mail it back out.

Keeps usps busy and charges the company that sent you unwanted mail. :)

I would bet that junk mail is what keeps the USPS going.

I spent $163,000.00 with USPS last year, and my clients made millions. More important, my clients employ people, pay taxes, pay vendors, etc...

It's called the US economy. Mostly, when .gov stays out of the way, it works well, and has for many decades. We'll see if they're successful forcing all of us on food stamps. Me, I'll keep working to earn my daily bread.
