Sounds like they rounded up a bunch of "winners" though. Taking illegal guns away from gang-bangers seems fairly productive. I'm OK with that. As long as they don't mess with law-abiding peoples, I think it's better than writing traffic tickets.

From the Times article:

Twenty-two people, ranging in age from 15 to 64, have been charged, according to police and Lake Superior Court records. An investigation into a 23rd person remains ongoing, police said.

One suspect was shot and killed in East Chicago before charges were filed, police said. Two additional cases were turned over to federal authorities for further investigation.

Police had 11 people in custody as of Thursday, and 12 remained at large.

Edit: the Times observed the operation on December 18, 2021, so they kind of had an inside lane into the story.

Kinda makes it sound like they arrested 56 people.

Why not state how many were arrested.

Straw purchases on camera, then arrest them.
Drugs, arrest.

The Times article was actually fairly well-written, and informative. I'll try to do some more quotes from it tomorrow when I'm on my real computer.
