Good Lord the USPS is horrible!!!! On Sunday i ordered a set of 1911 grip screws off Ebay from a seller In Schererville. Tracking shows them going from the there to Forrest Park, IL then to Chicago and now they are in Indy.
And they can't figure out why the Post office is millions in debt!

    wrong WRONG WRONG!!!
The post office is NOT in debt due to that "precieved incompetamce".

read this on how congress forced them to pay upfront the pension of all their workers.
    https://www.uspsoig.gov/blog/be-careful-what-you-assume

    something not common in biz.

in addition the post office gets ZERO tax payer funds.
all funds they get come from products/services they do.
so the profit they make goes to employee pensions, operational cost and r&d.

now that the post office sends your item 200+ milez away before it coming to you is a different story.
i dont know the reason for that can speculate that due to automation its easier to send everything to the main sorting facility and then back to the right "path" vs having a man in the loop looking at local packages and redirecting them off the automation line.

suspect the man hours to do it manual are more then just sending it to the automation place and sacraficing time vs speed of delivery.

you can always pay for next day which does get manual handling to ensure its first in line and on the faster route

i just thought it was crazy for them to leave the area at all. Even if automated, you'd think it'd see they are only going 10-15 miles away and with Gary being the sort facility for this area, i would've thought theyd go there, then here, not spend an extra 2-3 days and travel over 500 miles. Why the hell would they even leave the state to begin with, then pass right back thru the area where they shipped from and go another 140 miles south on top of it. Makes Zero sense any way you look at it.

why does amazon/walmart send a medium size box when you order a single small item and fill the box with air bubbles?

or why do they send 2 different boxes on 2 different days when both come from same warehouse.

    again logistics/automation.
in terms of amazon they use a algoritoum to maximize num of boxes on trucks being shipped. so if your item can fit in a medium box even thought is tiny. it goes.
