I think peacetime military should still be thanked, many had dangerous jobs even in peacetime, the rest were willing to go in the meantime. Granted, even those serving during wartime still have those I'd rather not associate with. I served from peacetime into wartime and back to peacetime. Let me tell you, a lot of things are easier in wartime military. Lost gear? Combat loss. 800 formations a day, nope no time, we gotta train. Spring and fall cleanup? We'll get rear D to do it. Still, good times during both.You sound as if the act of joining the military doesn't make you a hero.
I served 8 years peacetime and still cringe when someone thanks me for my service. I do thank servicemen and women who serve/served in time of war. I personally see a difference.
