Bought one a bit oversized and worry about the switch life considering how fast it cycles in my pit.

But with the last big rain, it was ON constantly and barely keeping up, the water was coming jn the 3" inlet pipe and there was no visible gap on the top of the pipe. My old pump would've let the basement fill up before it even thought about catching up

Glad my house is on a slab.

I pretty much slept right through it, other than our dog scratching the heck out of my stomach when she was going nuts from the thunder.

Just grabbed some random menards pump. I dug a hole and buried a 5 gallon bucket and drilled some holes, stuck pump down and 2 hours later no more water. It was about 7 inches deep and that part of the house is about 1000 sq ft

They must work, that seems to be the standard beach house these days. Either that, or the owners figure that a hurricane is going to demolish it anyway so they might as well make the most of their view and square footage.

I grew up about a mile from the Ohio, on higher ground. The houses in the low-lying areas were on stilts because it flooded multiple times annually. Worked great. It was always funny to see people taking boats to their houses.
