In my college bio 1 lab, we had to do the fruit fly genetics experiment. To separate and count flies, we'd use ether to knock them out. You only had a few minutes before they'd start to twitch, then right themselves and fly off. You should definitely catch and etherize a fly for the center, then film the unholy ressurection.
