The box we were in was here on turn 4.

My wife was a Princess for the Indy 500 while we were dating in college. I was her escort. We got to ride into the track in one of the pace cars, lap the track several times, sat on winners circle for the race, rode in and out in the governor's motorcade and avoided all the traffic too.

Last time I went (3-4? years ago) we sat in the 4th turn and got to see a lot of action in the 4th and toward the finish line. But it was sunny and hot in that corner.

We're still waiting to see the first hummingbird of the season. Orioles have always been very hit and miss for us (didn't see any last year), even with orange slices and jelly. Do you have any secrets to share on how to attract them?
I have a cheap orange colored feeder. Neighbor has a different orange feeder. Both work.

We're 2 rows behind the drip line, so we're only in the sun for say the 1st 20 laps.

I understand what happened, they got 34 cars entered, so they're letting all of them start the race. Kinda like NASCAR where everyone starts and qualifying only determines where in the field you start.

Yes, that is what it looks like. The 33 car limit started in 1911 and was a calculated limit. Since 1934 they have started 33 cars in every race except two - the 1979 and 1997 races had 35. And now 2023 has 34.

I was able to see the 500 back in '86? Great time as was Nascar and NHRA nationals in Joliet. Talk about t.v. not doing something justice. Standing by the starting line of a top fuel drag race makes every organ in your body vibrate in different directions at the same time. Got to tour the pit area both times in Joliet.

    Top fuel horsepower (roughly)
    1970's 2,000
    1980's 4,000
    1990's 8,000
    2000's probably 10,000
    Now probably 13,000
It is very problematic to measure these horsepowers

Also over the years they have become LOUDER.

When I was young, I got to follow the ASA circuit and watch from the pits.
A friend of mine's dad, sponsored Bob Senecer (not sure of the spelling).
I met most of the drivers, and got autographed pics of them with their cars.
Allan Kulwicki, Mark Martin, and Darrell Waltrip are a few I remember.

Whole freaking woods and they want to attack the kid's playset.
We have a small fenced yard on the south side of the house where I usually put the dogs out. This time of year, the carpenter bees take over that area and we all get dive-bombed any time we go in there.
