This might be a question for the Mouse? I really like the plain black model only drawback would be the sights. Wondering if the Trijicon HD’s would fit ? If so I would be in.

I haven't seen a new SPFD in awhile with factory dovetails but traditionally SPFD has a Novak rear but a proprietary front dovetail similar to a Dan Wesson which are cut a bit bigger than a Novak front sight so the HD's would likely not work. There are alternatives out there that are similar to Trijicon like Harrison Design.

Springfields killing me, first I need a new SA-35 'Hi-Power' and now they just announced this 'Garrison' model which is a nice blued gun (or stainless) with Novak sights and no front slide serrations, it looks great to me.

Opening threads like this do much damage to my will power.

    That is a nice 1911!

Thanks was really hoping the HD’s would fit. Pricey but for me they work.

So not being a 1911 owner (but saving pennies in the gun fund jar) i wonder why the mil-spec stainless is $200 more than black (MSRP $640 vs $849) but the Garrison has only a $49 difference (MSRP $800 vs $849). Also, any advantage to Mil-spec vs Garrison (both series 70 or?) Garrison appears to have dovetailed front and rear sights, and real wood vs. composite wood grips.

Seems to me if looking for a budget 1911 the black Mil-spec may be the way to go. Have seen it locally for $569-579.

Tell me what I am missing.

That's a good question, why is the stainless Mil Spec the same MSRP as the Stainless Garrison? The Garrison has a number of upgrades that would make it easy for me to choose it.

Better Sights, Grip Safety, Thumb Safety, Trigger, Hammer, Flat MSH,
Bluing vs Parkerized (on non stainless model)

That's all stuff I think needs to be done to the mil spec to make it more enjoyable for me, and it's far cheaper than me upgrading it.

Assuming the cuts from Springfield are the same Trijicon HS's for the Lo-Mount Novac cut will fit just fine. I recommend some green loc-tite on the bottom of the sight as mine just slid on no fitting or filing required for the rear sight. Front sight was super easy too.

Now Springfield has just announced two new Ronin EMP models with 3 and 4 inch barrels.

Only thing I don't like is the aluminum frame. Do all EMP's have aluminum frame?

I always found aluminum great if you are going to carry it a lot and shoot it little
LW guns carry more comfortable no doubt. As I wouldn’t carry a gun that I have not shot a lot then what I find more comforting is the heavier piece that will go the distance and absorb recoil for better shootability and conformity to my battery. Just me.

I know 70+ years old guys who carry a 1911 full size, or a 357 Magnum or 45 Colt revolvers. I guess it depends on the personal preference.

One of my sons uses a Ruger Vaquero 45 Colt for his carry. He's very good with it.

    Edit:

I'm 6'2" weigh 212lb last Dr visit. A full size firearm fits my frame and hand better. I also shoot them better than a small handgun. My smallest carry is the Shield 45 with extended magazine. 7+1

My DW CCO is a nice shooter. I’ve put a lot of rounds down the pipe and it never felt uncomfortable despite being an officer sized aluminum framed gun. It was my EDC for quite a while several years ago

I carried a Beretta 92 for a long time. It has an aluminum frame. I don't have a problem with aluminum frames but expect a 1911 to be steel. It just doesn't seem right to have aluminum or a polymer framed 1911.
