I'm surprised you are able to find this forum, since you're obviously seeing the world through a brown ring filter. The law has been extensively researched by both people on INGO and also by others in the media. In general, everything President Obama and his cronies has said in public has turned out to be a lie. As we're coming to see the implementation of this abomination, we're coming to see that everything that has been said about it from Sarah Palin on down has been correct across the board.

I suppose, in the end, experience tells me to trust those you are calling "wingnuts" since they've been more truthful than Obama and just about every Democrat in government in re: The Affordable Care Act.

They also don't pay the full bill for their own defense; we've done that by financing and being the primary in NATO since the end of WWII. They also have a different culture and high unemployment in segments of their population. Ok...couple of things.....first, someone color me stupid and explain exactly what a single payer system is? I've served in the active military for nearly all my adult life, and have never had to purchase healthcare insurance, so I'm a bit ignorant on what this system is.

second...if this was truly what the law states, "Affordable Care Act", then shouldn't the cost of health care be reduced? If so, then where did the authors of this "Act" go from affordable health care, to affordable health insurance. Seems silly to me to say its a law that's supposed to give all Americans affordable care, but really forces people to buy a product. The President today mentioned something about the new Iphone that went on the market and had glitches that were fixed quickly. He made comment about how people didn't clamor for apple to ditch the phone because it didn't work....or something along those lines (I don't remember the remarks exactly). What I do remember, is thinking to myself, that with the situation with Apple, we weren't forced to buy a new Iphone either.

third....Im a conservative by nature...meaning I believe in a smaller federal government, with the states being allowed to govern as they see fit, without violating the Constitution. I believe in living within ones means financially, because that's the standard I am being held to. I believe that if your hired (elected) to represent my interests at both the state and federal levels, then you should be doing what you were hired to do, and if you wont, then you should be given a pink slip and go into the workforce with me. To me, being a conservative means that I am party neutral and if one party comes up with a good idea that falls into what I deem (my opinion) as a good idea, then lets roll with it. But I have to say that the parties involved are acting like spoiled little kids who want to play stick ball, but expect everyone to play by different rules, and if it doesn't happen, then they will take their toys and go home.

He is operating from the premise that there is a 'free market' in broadband access. I reject that premise altogether. If there is a free market, why have I never lived in a house that offered more than one broadband provider? Where is the competition? Can I start one?

Who owns the property where they run their lines? Who regulates it? Who regulates the air waves?

Obviously you havent reserached the law Bogan, obamacare is gov't health care, in a few short years it will be single payer as everyone opts for the cheaper insurance in the first couple years then is forced into gov't health care after the insurance companies are gone. One more thing to keep in mind regarding our internet vs other countries is geography. By comparison to all those fast government-run internet options in those studies the US is huge, and with a relatively small population. South Korea is roughly the size of Kentucky, and their population is very urban-centered. It's easy to build out a fast internet structure in a centralized city environment, not so much when your nation is far more rural. For comparison:

The US is 98 times the size of South Korea (3,794,101 vs 38,691 square miles)
The US has only 6.3 times the population.
That translates to South Korea have a population density that's 14.7 times higher than the US.

So they've got a lot of people in a tiny area, comparatively speaking. I'd be truly surprised if they didn't have a better infrastructure in some things than we do. And you can certainly get internet speeds that exceed South Korea from the private market if you really want it. Just move to one of those towns in Kansas where Google's rolled out the 1GB fiber.
