BBC News - Iraq air strikes 'kill senior Islamic State members'
A senior Islamic State military commander in Iraq has been killed in an air strike on the northern city of Mosul, Iraqi state media report.
Iraq's defence ministry also said a top aide to IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had been killed in a strike on Mosul, but neither death has been confirmed.

That would be a good sign. Apparently it is a coalition of Iraqi forces, Kurdish Peshmerga and Shi'a militias playing the "boots on the ground" role.

So, are we legitimately going after ISIS, or is the current administration trying to sneak us into a war with Syria?

Well, they're going after them from the air in Iraq and, supposedly, Syria. We'll just have to wait and see. They have pulled off a crap load of air strikes so far and are engaging to aid Iraqi and Kurdish troops on the ground. At some point the people of the region are going to have to step up and put boots on the ground. The Aussies have stationed troops and planes in the UAE to help out, we'll just have to wait and see who else steps up. I don't want to see American troops back on the ground in Iraq. We've already lost enough people there, as it is.

Looks like they're ramping up the airstrikes and are now doing support for ground troops. They've also said that their planes will be authorised to react to any threat from Syrian air defences. That's ballsy.

US begins expanded campaign against ISIL

A little more on the matter of Syrian interference.

US Will Retaliate If Syria Interferes In Airstrikes
Well that's a good way to fight both ISIS and Assuad. Why not? I mean, America does find the need to be in EVERYONE'S business, both domestic and foreign. I say we let the Kurds take Kurdish lands in Syria and more so in Iraq, push for their independence, then buy their oil at a reduced price for supporting them. Sounds like a good friendship to me, sorta like a second Israel since the Kurds don't hate them anyways.

France is getting into the live fire training that is IS/Iraq/Syria(/Afganistan).
BBC News - Islamic State: France ready to launch Iraq air strikes
France's president says he has agreed to the Iraqi government's request for air support for forces fighting the jihadist group, Islamic State (IS).
Francois Hollande told reporters that French air strikes would only target the jihadist group's positions in Iraq, and not neighbouring Syria.
He also insisted that he would not send ground troops.
France is already carrying out reconnaissance flights over Iraq and providing weapons to Kurdish fighters.

Not sure how we can do this without becoming the Shi'a Air Force.
