Ask her why she doesn't protest at a neighborhood where there's more crime?
Because that is not the aim. The aim is to recruit more middle class, stay at home moms, who do not understand firearms to repeat their mantra and exhibit no critical thinking. Going into lower socio-economic areas suffering from crime does not fit that agenda, because "common sense gun control" fails when criminality is already rampant.

The most frightening part of that video is that she actually believes what she's saying has even a shred of truth or legitimacy.

She has no right to "know" about the person next to her.

Case in point: She has with her all the tools necessary to be a prostitute, but while I recognize she could be, I don't suspect her of being one.

So.... I've been thinking about this. Is there any organized opposition to these "Moms"? I mean serious opposition. Are we just sitting here making fun of them and feeling safe with the NRA kind of going to bat for us on a national scale? I know they might seem kind of pathetic on a local scale, but I won't be happy until they're embarrassed to go out in public. Perhaps a very public bake sale (advertised at the next Indy 1500) on our part with the proceeds being used to send them a skid of tissues, marital aides, and books like "The Hite Report", "The Kama Sutra" and the like? If they're busy getting busy I would think they'd have less time to bother us with their inane dribblings. Perhaps it would also help their castrated or maybe"'Fudd" husbands out as well.

Just a thought, but I believe in fighting fire with fire. The Moral high ground is a great place to talk to yourself.

I would send Sympathy cards to the husbands if the info was available.

I don't want to have to tell my kids that another actor is being a hypocrite because she stars in violent movies that have LOTS of guns, and yet preaches to ME about guns? Wow, I guess I would rather tell my kids the truth than confuse them by telling them that guns are bad, and then going out and "preten" shooting people.

When gun laws were nearly non-existent at the Fedearl level, and we were much freer to buy and own guns, the kind of mass violence she abhors was very rare. As our laws have become more free, gun violence is going down, not up. She's wrong in every way possible...as are most liberals on gun control. The most gun violence in our society is perpetrated by criminals, in the inner cities, over gangs and drugs. Fight those maladies, and the problem will be greatly diminished.

Gun safety is up to the owner but its not the governments responiblily to create laws to FORCE citizens ahear to gun safety. We are free and can do stupid things that is what freedom is about. All i keep thinking is your want a controllled society like the national socialist or the communist had. The US government does not have a right to infringe on the citizens right to be armed! Sure if you dont like guns good for you but you can not force your belief on another who does not believe. Guns are not bad... people can be bad whats next speech control under the guise of "safety". Its all bull-sh-t to control someone and take their rights away

While her intentions seem good, Ms Moore is searching for solutions in the wrong places. The problem isn't a lack of background checks or universal background checks; the problem is that the vast majority of criminals acquire their firearms illegally, and no amount of background checks is going to change that. Stiffen penalties for criminal acts involving firearms and enforce existing laws. Stop letting violent felons off easy. That, Julianne, is the solution.

The car analogy isn't a great one, for a variety of reasons, but one should note that gun deaths have gone down about the same amount as car deaths over that same time period.
Also the reason we have more gun violence than other countries people like to compare us to is that we are a more violent people. It has very little to do with gun laws. A century ago, New York City had a much higher rate of murder than London, despite New York having much stricter gun laws. Now London has much stricter laws, the percentages of murder (and gun violence) remain not very much changed from a century ago, and yet the laws are supposed to be the difference? And as for universal background checks, opponents have valid objections that could be overcome, but gun control people refuse to work with them on those concerns. It's right that this ought not to be politicized, but let's put the onus on the gun control advocates, where it should be.

If you exclude blacks from the equation the US has one of the very lowest murder rates on earth. According to the FBI Expanded Homicide Table #9 blacks commit 52% of the murders. Those are black men, not women, and they are only 6.5% of our population. You are as safe or safer in the US as anyplace else on earth if you avoid high crime, welfare ghettos in cities ran by Democrats. As to your mistaken point that Americans are more violent---then why is the US violent crime rate (murder, aggravated assault, rape, robbery and kidnapping) so much lower than other places--including London and the rest of Europe?

If we were to get these Doctors and Drug Companies under control, we would reduce gun violence and gun deaths by about 3/4s in the USA. No one is offering anything that comes close to this, why? "Because our weak gun-safety laws allow guns to end up in the hands of dangerous people..." It couldn't be the weak-kneed judges and prosecutors that DON'T ENFORCE THE LAWS, could it? It couldn't be that mental health facilities have closed on a never-before-seen scale, could it? It couldn't be that regardless of what laws you pass trying to keep guns from law-abiding citizens, criminals will still have guns, could it?
When will the morons on the left realize that regardless of how many laws they pass criminals WILL HAVE GUNS. They will steal them from the military (as they sometimes do), or from the cops, or from some untrained idiot law-enforcement person that leaves his gun in the men's room, or someone with a machine shop will decide he can make more money by cobbling together guns to sell to criminals.

What the author of this article fails to mention is that the people responsible for these crimes do not, in most cases, obtain their weapons legally. They are purchased from other criminals or stolen. Law abiding citizens who own firearms are not the problem but part of the solution.
Cities with the most restrictive gun laws continue to have a higher rate of gun related incidents than cities that allow open/concealed carry.
So, I would ask Julianne Moore to HONESTLY answer this question. When one or more thugs kick in your door at 0 dark thirty, what would you rather have in your hand - a telephone or a gun?

"why does our country have a gun murder rate 25 times that of other developed countries?"

I love liberal statistics. You start with a conclusion, then look for ways to make it sound true. We may have a "gun murder rate" higher than other "developed" countries but, our overall murder rate is not at the top of the list. That means people are still being murdered in these other countries, just not with a gun. People with half a brain would realize it must not be the guns, but not these idiots. Also, if you removed Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, and Los Angeles from the stats we would be at the bottom for "developed" countries. Hmmmm, what do these cities have in common? Maybe that's the problem.

BTW, London was named the most dangerous city in Europe last year. Don't they have gun control???

It doesn't. That's a lie. The US murder rate is 4.25 per 100,000. There is no country that has a murder rate 1/25th of that. What is true though is that if you exclude blacks (specifically black men in a few cities), who commit 52% of the murders according to the FBI, the US has one of the lowest murder rates in the world. Lower than places like Canada and Belgium that both have strict gun control laws. You are as safe or safer here as any other place on earth if you stay away from high-crime, multi-generational, welfare ghettos in cities ran by the Democratic party.

What a bunch of BS, skewed data, and lies. The truth is this. If that 2nd grade teacher at Sandy Hook had been armed and trained, there is a good possibility that none if her students, and herself as well, would have been murdered. All of these mass shootings have been committed in "gun-free zones." Our school district has removed all the "gun-free zone" signs at the overwhelming request of parents and has encouraged parents (if they have a carry permit) to be armed when they pick up their kids.

Another Hollywood character, spewing the same skewed statistics and outright lies. No, 40% of firearms are NOT purchased without a background check. This figure has been debunked numerous times...but it doesn't fit the lefts narrative. The murder rate in the US is NOT "25 times that of other developed countries". Around 2/3rds of gun deaths in the US are suicides, and our suicide rate is not NEARLY what it is in some very heavily gun controlled countries (Denmark, Japan, for example). Of our murders, most of the remaining ~10,000 annually are gang/drug related. In other words, the numbers quoted bring in to question the veracity of the rest of the article. Epic fail.

    Gun Control Buzzwords

    Gun Control vs Gun Safety

Have you noticed the smiling, smarmy, manipulating Obama has switched tactics, pontificating emotionally about Gun Safety where in the past he was hammering on Gun Control? The anti-gun people realized the catchphrase Gun Control had taken on a negative connotation among Americans as poll after poll has shown Americans in fact, do not want more gun control. To combat the association, the gun control people have decided to switch to the words Gun Safety so as to give Americans a warm fuzzy feeling, while at the same time attempting to ridicule Pro-Second Amendment supporters by declaring to the media that gun owners are against Gun Safety. Of course, we are not against gun safety, but we are against Gun Control disguised as Gun Safety.

David EschSo many distorted "facts" and pure fantasy. She somehow believes that states without background checks have fewer murders than those who do...but skips both the FBI data the completely destroys this fantasy AND ignores that 95% of "mass shootings" take place in "gun free zones" where background checks would be completely meaningless. Arizona has Constitutional Carry, where there is no permit needed to carry any legal firearm openly OR concealed, no background check, no registration, no waiting period..yet in 2014 FBI crime stats Arizona had a mere 153 firearm related murders. California, which HAS all these laws, had 1,169 firearm related murders. Illinois, including Chigaco where guns are IMPOSSIBLE to get legally unless you are with the Mayor or the Mob, had 371 firearm related murders. New Jersey, another leftist haven , had 243 firearm related muders while Nevada, oh horrible Nevada, had exactly...94. I'm sorry, ma'am, but your math is wrong and your conclusions are wrong.

I am a fat, old man unable to physically prevent a rapist thug from molesting or abducting your child for later rape/murder but I can shoot him behind the ear and stop the assault and abduction. One of many reasons why I carry a handgun. 'nuff said

Is it safe to assume she will use her wealth to provide my family with around the clock protection by these security guards she speaks of? It's quite simple Julianne, evil gets to choose when and where it will strike. All you can do is prepare for it, and hopefully survive it. Maybe you should explain to your daughter that evil exists in the world.

    Julianne Moore -

"Gun safety got personal for me when I realized that my security guards will carry firearms for me and are employed for the sole purpose of protecting me a my family."

"So then I got to thinking. Maybe we should ban guns altogether and only allow our security guards to protect us. We all have security right? We don't need to protect ourselves."

"Then I wondered, why would ANYONE would want guns? Don't they also live in the safety of their Beverly Hills mansion? Everyone has an endless supply of cash to do whatever they want, live where ever they want to live, under the conditions of their choosing, right?"

Julianne is a over-privilaged, spoiled, close minded liar who needs a dose of reality.

Oliver BrianOh, so Julianne Moore and Lena Dunham, both actresses and "experts" so we should listen to them? Simple question, why can't you suggest that women who are afraid for their lives arm themselves? What about "girl power", would it no be empowering for a woman to have a gun when they feel threatened or can you Ms. Moore afford the armed protection of security guards that virtually no one else can pay for except the elite? If you were asked, “Is gun violence on the rise?” what would you say? If you would say yes you would be factually wrong. According to both Pew Research and FBI statistics gun vio...See More

There ARE NOT 91 people a day killed by "gun violence". There are people killed every day by other people and these idiots, like Julianne Moore, don;t even know what gun safety is. Gun safety is teaching children that guns are just a tool, and just like other tools they can be misused. Teach them actual safety, not lies and propaganda that will do nothing to make anyone safer. If you REALLY thought that guns were the problem and that they needed to be taken away from people then why arn't you advocating taking all vehicles away from people, after all there are A LOT more people killed by cars every day and every year than there are by guns. Until you use the same argument for EVERYTHING then you are just a hypocrit and look fools for your comments.

She wants to include suicides in that number because everybody knows that without guns suicides would no longer happen. I'm not sure what happened in Australia and Japan, they must be doing something wrong.
