    Just from experience, a lot of older folk do not retain body heat.

    That's most likely the reason, but it could also be fashion. Back in the day upper class women wore gloves. And men wore jackets/ties/and hats (not ball caps). And t-shirts were worn, but in public under a button up shirt.

    Stylish gloves, yes. Those are obviously for warmth.

    Don't get a few of us back on the grungifying of American fashion.
