According to this story, Walz was selected for CSM/E-9 of his guard unit, but a month later when his unit was called up for Iraq he truncated his service commitment, immediately retired, and ran for Congress as a lefty Dem…billing himself as a retired CSM.

Post retirement Walz was demoted back to Master Sergeant (I think)/E-8 because he had not completed the courses and other requirements for CSM.

The guy who replaced him as CSM and went to Iraq in his place for two years was not happy about this, but astonishingly the MSM, particularly the Star Tribune of Minneapolis, is not interested in this.
