    Fair warning.

It is legal for a person with a license to carry handgun to openly carry handguns in public so long as it is not a prohibited place (like a school, court building, casino, any other places prohibited by law).

Even though it is legal to carry openly with a license, innocent open carriers do occasionally run into law enforcement officers who are either ignorant of the law or feign ignorance in order to enforce their personal agendas.

My head hurts after reading that. :n00b:

Yeah I assumed you started carrying without knowing the law yet. Some people actually do that, I know hard to believe but they do.

I hope you didn't get butt hurt by my answer because it was not my goal.

    Have a good nap. :ingo:

In all seriousness you should probably look into finding a basic pistol class in your area. There appear to be some great instructors here around Ingo. They'll cover the safety rules, basic handling, proper grip and posture, and would probably happily answer some of your carry questions. I think they can be great for anyone, even if you're already familiar with the basics. Everyone can benefit from a refresher now and then.

    Wrangler,
Look at some of the threads here that all ready exist. Follow some of the links people have provided. Don't just trust somebody on the internet.
But when they provide the Indiana Code, then you can check it yourself on the IN.gov site.
Also, ask the people that say it's illegal to quote the law. They can't, because it doesn't exist. Remember, the IC tells what is illegal. Therefore, if it doesn't say something is illegal, it must be legal.

I just find it kinda scary when someone who's already carrying a gun in public asks some VERY basic questions about carry laws. :n00b:

You would think learning about those laws is what you do way BEFORE you actually get your licence and start carrying, not after.

That's just like for someone who has a drivers licence to ask "When the light is red, im supposed to stop right?".

I suggest the OP to learn about carry laws and use of deadly force ASAP.
And not by asking random friends who are not lawyers but by reading the IC by himself.

    :twocents:

If we are going to compare it to cars I would say it would be like someone who learned how to drive in a sedan and recently learned you can drive a convertible with the top down and all the same rules apply

Good luck Wrangler. Just ask if you have any more questions. Personally I try to look stuff up myself first but its good to learn somehow. :yesway:

BTW how did you get interested in OC?

You rang? :D I knew where it was illegal and thought you could only CC here when I started carrying. Then I ran across INGO and found the err of my way.
