Nuclear War Survival Skills by Cresson Kearny [1] is the most substantial classic work on this. There's no substitute for a hard copy, but the publisher also provides a free PDF version [2].

Original edition was in 1979. Significantly updated in 1987. Small addition in 2001. The links below are to the 1987 version, I think.

That said, I think an EMP and cyberattack is more likely.

Everybody thinks they're likely the priority target or near enough one.

Same with growing up near Flint Michigan. You'd hear all the time: "We'll be ground zero pert near"

I used to think to myself as a teen: "God, I hope so"...
Well, if you live in or next to a really big city, or you live near major manufacturing like steel mills and oil refineries, you probably are.

No the last missile system for that was the NIKE long gone.

The Russian arsenal is not as accurate as our stuff. But it’s bigger payload wise.

You might survive but it would be Walking Dead style experience.

BTW WW2 Nukes we’re very small

If you want to live out the rest of your life in a hole in the ground... maybe.

The weather changes due to such a war and all the ash will make agriculture basically impossible for a very long time. Some people may survive, but the longer you live through it the worse your life is going to be.

I'm pretty sure a full scale nuclear war would be the end of life on earth in large part, just due to the effects over the years afterwards.

There really isn't any way to be "prepared" as we can only guess what the results of this would be. Going beyond basic preps involves radiation shelters and detection equipment, but then how long, if ever, before you can start over.
Exactly. If a conflict like that were to happen, and even if I could survive underground or something, what would I be crawling out to, when the supplies I had ran out? Slow death from cancer and radiation sickness? If that "balloon" were to ever go up, I hope I am near ground zero.

I believe the target here is Ft Ben. Payroll processing center of the military.

Soldiers wont fight if you cant pay them is the theory.

This site will keep you entertained while thinking about glowing mushroom clouds delivered by buckets of liquid sunshine.

FYI - average yield of a Russian warhead is 800 kilotons.

Excellent book that is still relevant. The three key factors for nuclear survival is time, distance and shielding.

If close enough to something nukable — just wrap yourself in a clean sheet, put a name tag on your toe, and enjoy your best alcoholic beverage while lying on the kitchen floor. A prayer would also be advisable.
