But power to do what, exactly? They've had the power. What did they do with it? Granted they got conservative justices appointed to SCOTUS but policy-wise? Not much.

Just to make this worse, Mexican, and maybe all central American, illegals pay 0 federal income taxes as well. They are LEGALLY permited, by the irs, to claim any and all family in their home counrty as dependants in order to reduce their withholding to zero.

Why Congress allows this, I'll never know... But, yes, immigrants are eligible for child tax credit, but not earned income tax credits or a lot of other things. (e.g. They have to pay into social security but can't get it)

In order to claim a child, that child MUST have an SSN valid for employment. Without that, you could get a smaller credit... But yeah, there's a lot of fraud here.

Nevertheless, a lot of immigrants from South America, legal or not, aren't paying a lot of taxes because they're below the threshold... Like a whole bunch of American born citizens.

One thing that few people seem to appreciate is how necessary it is to fight bad laws tooth and nail before they get enacted

Often a simple majority can enact a law but it takes a 60+ vote majority to repeal one which is considerably more difficult to manage

Because Libertarians are true believers that it is only a matter of time and then a majority of voters will find their inner Libertarian and one of them will get elected. That same guy got 4.6% of the vote last time he ran for the senate, and has polled between 1 and 6% with an average of 3% this time around, so he is hitting the usual Libertarian high water marks - just enough to **** things up for the opposition to Democrats

They're not going to make it happen, not in my lifetime
