Somehow if the IRS was to audit someone, and that person told them the files they wanted were on a hard drive that crashed and all files were lost, does anyone think the IRS will actually say "OK, no problem" and drop the audit? Don't think so.

And the stuff gets deeper and deeper.

If they ever audit me, I will just tell them I sent all my documentation to Lois Lerner for safekeeping.

I think the problem is the public perception, or lack there of, the problem. They are not putting a crying surviving relative in front of the camera saying laws have to change. Therefore the the perception is that it is a victimless crime. Where the use of arms of the government as a political party's gestapo has the potential to end nations, the dancing with the stars crowd just doesn't get it.
