I thought this might be a good thread to mention this. I've been a little scarce round these parts lately because I've been busy emptying my basement out in preparation for some major foundation work. I've been going at it pretty much non-stop for the last 4 weekends and that included 5 days on labor day weekend. It's been a blessing because I really needed to clean out the basement.

A lot of that stuff is not going back in the basement. For any of you fitness buffs into pumping iron, I have some olympic style barbell plates and a bench. I can't pump iron like I used to, my shoulder is too tore up - and shoulder surgery on the near horizon. I'll keep the squat rack and a few plates. But anyone interested in some plates, a nice bench press press, and an olympic bar and curl bar shoot me a pm. I'll make you a good deal, but you'll have to come pick it up.

I think I read that Doc bought a bench and is now looking for some weight and a bar.

I'm back in. (I've gained back about half of the 20 I lost at the beginning of the year. :( )

Still struggling to make this a real lifestyle change rather than a diet. My brain keeps looking at it as a temporary thing to achieve a weight loss goal rather than a sustainable way of life. Got the bike tires aired up and the My Fitness pal app back in action. Lets do this!

    Bump.

Been going for bike rides in the evenings and eating healthier. I already feel less lethargic. I'm amazed at how much different I feel after a healthy meal and reasonable portions. I actually feel energized vs needing a nap after the crap I had been eating.

Well, I got down to 218 and started tougher workouts. My strength and endurance have greatly improved and I'm becoming more defined. However, I'm gaining weight (currently 223 pounds) and although I attribute it to increased muscle mass, I was trying to lose more weight. Maybe I'm just not built to be 200 pounds or less? Still I feel great, so maybe I should stop worrying about weight?

Yes, yes you should. Weight is just a number, kind of like age, you're only as old as you feel.

Well, the only reason I was so concerned is because all the commercials about type-two diabetes talk about weight so much. I am just trying to prevent any preventable illnesses. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place. My doctor says I'm fine, but I'm just paranoid when it comes to sickness.

"Weight" is relative. Fat loss would be a better measure. While not perfect, calipers are a good way to track BF. I started out 5 years ago at 220lbs (6'2") with a BF around 25%. After a couple of years I weighed about the same but my BF got down to 15% or so. In the last 2 years I've focused more on strength and actually gained weight, I'm up to 250-255lbs while keeping my BF below 20%. Below 20% is a healthy goal. Make note of how your clothes fit and how you feel. Weight will drive you crazy.

Well, I am down to 245 from 254 my max. I am using MyfitnessPal religiously now and using GIPIS for a running plan, couch to 10K. Linked it to RunKeeper so it will send the data to RunKeeper which in turn will send the exercise and calories to MyFitnessPal. I will use GIPIS for running and use RunKeeper for biking.

Ordered a Garmin 310XT for the heart rate monitor and foot pod so I can watch my heart rate. The foot pod makes the pace for the 310 much more accurate. I want to use that because the pace for both GIPIS and RunKeeper on my phone is pretty inaccurate. Not sure if I can connect it to MyFitnessPal yet.

Started back up in the gym after a couple of week off due to an irritated Quad tendon. Doing light squat work and heavier on everything else.

Plan is to run 3 days a week (right now the pace starting out is so slow and 15:20 that it is hard to do) and going to the gym a couple of days a week or three, one day just for core exercises. Practicing clean and jerk with just a bar right now.

My daughter and I were there also! Fun times! The rope climb obstacle was my toughest one, though they were all pretty tame.
