If I didn't like doing the dirty part of my job, and decided to walk out I would be released from my duties permanantly. Too bad the same thing won't happen to these individuals. You were elected into office to do a job, like it or not, thats the job they have in front of them. Sometimes making hard decisions sucks, but that doesn't (shouldn't) make hiding allowable/acceptable. If they're not willing to voice their opinion of tough decisions, find someone else who is. I'd have their stuff packed up for them when they return.

What kind of example does this set? It's like the teachers in WI, what does that say to the children. You are a public figure. You have a job that the people who elected you trust you to do. Do your damn job or GTFO.

But then again most people aren't paying attention to what happens at the statehouse anyway, but they can sure tell you who Snookie slept with this week.

Actually, the dems are doing what they were elected to do, oppose the reps and their agenda. Since they don't have the necessary numbers to defeat that agenda, they are using about the only tool they have in their box. I'll bet you'd be hard pressed to find a dem constituent who is against this particular move of theirs. As for what example it sets...."Any chair in a bar fight".

    High strung said it right.
It gets old seeing a different set of rules, even laws, for these people. They are citizens first and should act like it. They get ELECTED and think they can do things that would not be tolerated anywhere else and get away with it. I don't understand why we the people don't speak up more often about this kind of bs.
I don't think the "issue" before them should ever allow them to walk out on their job. I say job, because they shouldn't be there long enough to make it a career.

So it is possible for a citizen of the state of Indiana (ie. common joe like you and me) to go and find these reps that are NOT doing their job, and by any means possible take them back to the statehouse so they can do their ***** job!

If so can we get the posse started please. I'll take a few days off work to join and escort them back to the statehouse. GO DO YOUR JOB!!!!

These idiots were elected to legislate. If they shuck that responsibility, then they should leave or be made to leave office. I know NWI would be better off if they did.

Actually, they are serving the people who elected them. Politics is, always has been, and always will be a dirty business. So much of the anger I see on this board is self-inflicted due to a fundamental misunderstanding of the poltical process. Ideology and politics are two separate things.

If your plan for the world is that first people must become better people, you are destined for failure as are all such systems. Politics is like the free market, but the medium of exchange isn't money, it's power and influence. You can't change that, anymore than you can change the laws of physics or economics. Politics is what it is, and constantly being upset that it isn't something else is an exercise in futility at best, and a misdirection of effort at worst.

It's a waste of time to try and see your obtuse leadership's actions through the everyday lense. They have thier own set of values and direction. The only way to start changing this is to make recall elections really easy, keep them on a short chain.

In my opinion, that is a cure worse than the disease. There are already processes in place to deal with serious negligence by elected and appointed officials. If we ever want to see anything constructive done by our elected leaders, they need to know that as long as they don't do anything criminal that they will be in office at least until their term ends, after the next election.

On the other hand, color me disgusted with house Democrats. I understand why they are doing what they are doing, but this is a childish temper tantrum. I think what needs to change is an imposition of new legislative rules. They should effectively prohibit one party's caucus from leaving a state in order to hold the entire legislature hostage.

So, what's your opinion of the record number of filibusters the U.S. Senate Republicans invoked the past two years?

So, what's your opinion of the record number of filibusters the U.S. Senate Republicans invoked the past two years?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a filibuster when the Senate discusses, at length, a specific bill; therefore, delaying further action on the bill? So, as part of the filibuster process, you would have in your example Republic Senators talking on and on and on about a bill that they don't immediately want to vote on.

Now, in WI and IN, we have representatives who have simply chosen to hide in another state and not show up to work.

I understand that both are delay tactics, but one has the Senator present and the latter does not.

Am I wrong? If so, please educate me.

I just Wikied the Indiana Senate Rules and it says:

"Two thirds of the senators must be present for the session to begin. Senators must be present at each session unless they are explicitly excused by the president-pro-tempore. Members who are not present can be forced to attend the session or be censured and expelled from the body."

Let's do it. The sooner they are censured and expelled, the quicker we can get new people in there to pass this law.
