A reliable 'all-weather' .22 rimfire, like either a 10/22 or maybe the Savage 93. The .22LR round is plenty deadly on large or small game (and BG's)... with the hollow-point rounds, and ammo is plentiful (usually) and lighter to carry than most CF stuff.

Second possiblility would be a T/C Encore or Contender with 2-3 different caliber barrels, altho in a self-defense situation certainly not ideal, being a single-shot format.

I'd probably go with my AR. I hadn't thought of it before, but it's likely the most versatile firearm I own.

Mp5. Small enough to carry, big enough to be accurate.

Cause 40 rounds of 9mm will kill anything.

I'll be a little different, mine would be a marlin lever action model 39a.
A 22 cal. is what I stared with and would be OK to finish it out!:)

.357 revolver. Smith 686 or Ruger GP100. 4 inch would work for cc, target, home defense. Legal for deer hunting and could also hunt small game with .38s. Lots of ammo choices from heavy boomers to light .38s and even shotshell snake loads.

You bring up a very good point.

My choice of a .22 rimfire would not be "deer legal" in Indiana, or anywhere I know of.... altho a .22LR HP in the forehead will definitely take down a mature deer.

I was mostly thinking of 'after' the SHTF scenario (the OP did say "the rest of your life").... in which case most anyone needing to feed their family out in the boonies, would likely disregard DNR regs.

My Pink zebra glock 26 :-) cuz I can't carry and conceal our shotgun or ar15, so this one I can use to carry, for competitions, and for home defense if necessary.

I would have to go with my 10/22. The availability of ammo and the ability to have way more than you would ever need. 870 would come in at a close second though...

I will mention 2 I will never own.
    First is a AR-15.
I have very little contact with one. I never held a opinion.
During an instructional Carbine class. I got a brief operational demo.
many questions popped into my mind.
A couple days later at a range/gun store. The owner took time to do a complete break down of the AR-15.
That weapon would never pass the 1911 or M1 garand field test.
The way it was built it has the dirtiest action.
It is absolutely built to fail.
it also has so many parts and small parts that require cleaning.

    Second is the Glock line.
    :xmad:I owned a Glock 17, 9mm.
It sat in my draw loaded for about 2 years.
    Kingsbury range reopened.
One day I decided to go.
I got off 2 rounds and then failure to fire.
    I checked everything.
The range officer looked at the failed rounds.
    The primer was never touched.
The firing pin spring was to weak.:draw:
Sitting in the draw compressed weakened the spring.
My open hammer auto can sit with the tension released from the hammer.
:dunno: You can not release the firing pin with a round in the chamber in a Glock.
You can with a open hammer weapon.

This posting is so full of fail. Next time how about learning a weapon before offering ignorance up in the form of an opinion.

I like seeing all the opinions! As much as I want to say my lever action rifle, which is my favorite firearm, I would have to say a good pump shotgun. With the right load, you can do just about anything with it!
