My Dan Wesson commander classic. That way when i get bored, i can just stare at it and become instantly satisfied. Theres just something about the look of a beautiful 1911, and the feel of it, the smooth action, if only they made women in that model....!!!!!!!!!!

Since this is one of those hypothetical type discussions, I think I will have to follow the lead of those before me that had to face an untamed wilderness full of unknowns with, but in a more modern package. Since the vast majority of the settling of this nation as done by men and women armed largely with smoothbore arms, I think a modern shotgun would be the best all around. There is really only one type of firearm that can cover all these bases; defence, fowling, small game, large game. Which is exactly why our ancestors chose their fowlers and shotguns.

So, my choice would be my 870.

I will mention 2 I will never own.
    First is a AR-15.
I have very little contact with one. I never held a opinion.
During an instructional Carbine class. I got a brief operational demo.
many questions popped into my mind.
A couple days later at a range/gun store. The owner took time to do a complete break down of the AR-15.
That weapon would never pass the 1911 or M1 garand field test.
The way it was built it has the dirtiest action.
It is absolutely built to fail.
it also has so many parts and small parts that require cleaning.

    Second is the Glock line.
    :xmad:I owned a Glock 17, 9mm.
It sat in my draw loaded for about 2 years.
    Kingsbury range reopened.
One day I decided to go.
I got off 2 rounds and then failure to fire.
    I checked everything.
The range officer looked at the failed rounds.
    The primer was never touched.
The firing pin spring was to weak.:draw:
Sitting in the draw compressed weakened the spring.
My open hammer auto can sit with the tension released from the hammer.
:dunno: You can not release the firing pin with a round in the chamber in a Glock.
You can with a open hammer weapon.

Lots of posts about the 10/22, but I guess I'm a little confused. Only one gun for the rest of your life doesn't mean you have to survive on it. People are talking about being able to carry lots of ammo and versatility of the gun etc etc. It's not a good home defense gun and the number one reason I would want to own a gun is home defense. Number two is fun at the range and lastly would be to hunt or take camping. Personally I wouldn't choose something with less of a caliber than a 9mm, preferable 45. Also I would want to be able to carry it concealed. Compact P220. oh and with an extra extended clip if thats allowed ;)
