I don't think we all agree on that at all. Many of us, including myself, don't believe in having to have a government permission slip to exercise our rights.

I still have one, but I strongly disagree with having to have it.

    +1

And once again I will ask if they are so dangerous to Society that they have a Right barred from them, why again are they released?! :dunno:
    :yesway:
If they are not locked up or on probation/parole they are free men (and women) and should be treated as such.

What I think is unreal is that even IF you carry a gun without a LTCH it is only a MISDOMEANER! They are going to all this trouble to pass out tickets? What sort of public safety is this? About as effective as roadside seatbelt checks thats what... oh wait, those are illegal.

Downtown Indy is becoming more dangerous every day. Too many young, un-attended, un-disciplined, disrespectful, punk wannabes, many carrying weapons, usually in groups, intentionally causing or looking for trouble. I don't know what the solution is, but I do know, if and when I go downtown, ( and anywhere else, for that matter) I will be armed and alert to those around me. I have personally witnessed two shootings in the downtown area. One of those was just 20 feet from me!

Just a thought. If you were the guy who had to do the job, and you saw somebody carrying a handgun, wouldn't your first thought be about safety, both for yourself and others? You whiners who yap about being treated like a criminal until proven innocent apparently think somebody can tell just be looking at you that you are not a criminal. So, crime fighting experts.....please tell us exactly how a cop who has never laid eyes on you before is going to make the determination as to whether you are a complete psycho with a stolen gun who came downtown just to shoot somebody or a law abiding citizen.

I see your point, since so many gang bangers and thugs open carry, it is hard to tell the difference between them and law abiding citizens.

I would think a gun owner would understand that we DO have rights. A LEO cant just pull over a car randomly to verify that the driver is licensed, and by the same token, simply carrying a gun should NOT be probable cause or reasonable suspicion to detain, confiscate, and verify LTCH.

    Try out this scenario..

You may be willing to drop to the ground, bare your neck, and piddle yourself to show submission, but those of us who know we have Rights, are not so complacent.

Misdemeanors are arrestable offenses. Carrying without a LTCH is a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in jail and a $5000 fine. If your within 1000' of school grounds it is a class C felony (2-8 years in prison and up to $10,000 fine). It is not a traffic ticket.

Tickets are an infraction(civil not criminal)usually, and are not an arrestable offense, nor do they carry jail/prison sentences.

ETA What I think is unreal is that if you carry a handgun without a LTCH that it is any sort of a violation. Felony/misdemeanor/infraction. It doesn't matter. I wish we would go the way of AK/AZ/VT and add a bit of UT in so we could carry on school grounds.

My trips downtown are usually very rare. I have been three times, once to the state museum during the day to see the Titanic exhibit, a Colts playoff game, and an ice show. If you look back about five years, I know I went with friends once, and to a hockey game, and also a trip to Weber Grill. Fact is, downtown gets too thugish. There are no "wannabe" punks, there are true to life punks.

I remember the trip with friends about three or four years ago. We walked out of Circle Center and I was shocked to see so many black kids just standing around. They were louder than the groups of white kids, and they were dressed in the typical hip-hop gangsta thug look. I guess some of them maybe wannabes, but given the shootings downtown, obviously some are more than just wannabe pretenders.

Looking on my future radar, I think the first part of this year was an anomaly for me and downtown Indy.

As one of the "City Market six", I can tell you in all certainty, that the LEO's downtown are jumpy about guns, legal or not, they don't care. It's all in the name of "Officer Safety". Disarmed, even cuffed, Once they determined we were all legal, they said we couldn't go into the Market for lunch. FUN times in Indianapolis. That's why I don't go there.

Well, sir. You've made it clear you understand exactly the situtation the police are in because they share your distrust of the unknown.

Isn't it odd how some people meet "a lot of worthless cops" and others seem to only meet the good ones. Luck of the draw I guess.

i guess I have more real world experience and am better traveled than you.

I OCed downtown at midnight last Saturday and had no problem with IMPD, I even spoke to several IMPD officers on my way to my car and they didn't have a problem with my handgun, makes me believe that IMPD is going to be reasonable in the enforcement of people carrying illegally

No coffee, I actually rode the elevator in the parking garage with 2 officers, they were nice and even asked if I wanted an escort to my car, I'm in a cast and limp a little.

I thought the Guardian Angels were going to start "patrolling" downtown to help squelch the thug n' crime problem?

Perhaps we need a group of like minded individuals who happen to carry handguns and their long guns locked and loaded legally downtown nightly in a large gathering until these problems are eliminated or "eliminated". :ar15::draw::shoot::smileak::biggun:

I carried a P95 concealed downtown all week. It seemed that every time an LEO noticed my paracord bracelet, he looked at my right hip. There were officers at every entrance to the vendor's area and usually an officer or two in my hotel lobby. I never got hassled.
