Well, I'm 52, and I said "In my lifetime".

But most of those are recent years.

    Oh, I almost missed this...

-remember when stores were closed on Sundays
-remember when you could be drafted
-remember when you couldn't carry out alcohol on Sundays
    -remember when abortion was illegal
-remember when there was no such thing as a casino in Indiana
-remember when you couldn't physically resist unlawful entry
-remember when media was more heavily censored (thanks NYPD Blue)
-remember when public intox was simply being intoxicated in public (regardless of your actions)
    -remember the AWB
-remember when gay marriage was illegal
-remember when jailbreaking a phone was illegal
-remember when it was illegal to burn the flag
-remember when absinthe was illegal (I do, dagnabit)
    -remember airline price regulation
-remember restricted travel to Russia, China, and Vietnam
-remember when books based on ideology were banned (Mao - 70s)

Ha ha. I certainly recognize that their is an incremental loss of freedoms. However, to put it anywhere close the freedoms the general populace didn't have throughout MOST of our nations history, doesn't do our history justice.

My post was a stab at those who long for a return of the wild west.

I used to challenge people to name a 10 year period in history where liberty was increased. I stopped that challenge when someone pointed out the history of liberty for blacks.

    It's getting heated up here.

Maybe a citizen will flip that leo the bird, tell him to #### off, get beaten and jailed, and then get $100,000 of the taxpayer's money.

...and believe it or not, people have more freedom in our generations, than any other prior (collectively)

    In that, I cannot disagree.

I guess I've been misinformed. Here, all this time I thought all those new pages of laws, regulations, policies, and rules we see every year, were adding to the forbearance various local, state, and federal governments were placing on us. I guess there were more repeals in all those thousands and thousands of pages than I was lead to believe.

I don't think you're misinformed, I think you're being too simplistic. Your are looking at a numbers-net in the amount of laws now, vs the amount of laws in the past. I will admit there are certainly more laws/rules/regulations than in our past. But does the number or type of laws that hinder freedom? Let's say there were exactly 100 laws. If I eliminated one law that stated people could not leave the state without government approval, and you eliminated these 3 laws (Can't drive without a seatbelt, Can't drive with an open container of alcohol, Can't have kids in the car without being in a carseat) which do you think would mean more to people in terms of actual liberty? By raw numbers, you have done away with more rules, but in terms of freedom, the law I did away with means more, much more. Do you not agree?

    Yup...that's about it.

In the military, we had a thing called integrity...doing what's right even when no one is watching! Hopefully that is still the rule.

Some still have it (all occupations) but its not nearly like it used to be.

A little off-topic, anybody hear about the soldier killing the ladyboy in the Philipines?
