So why would Cohen lie about saying he paid out of his own pocket. These guys are spinning a web of lies that they can't even keep up with their lies.

Protect a client. Or maybe he took the check out of his own pocket and didnt lie ;)

You get lied to by the media and the FBI and other government every day and dont even bat an eye. Everyone lies now. Its common place.

I don't disagree... but, if you're going to lie to me, make it a good one. Don't tell me a lie that is so weak, it's indicative that you think I'm stupid.

    Like Russian collusion.
A lot of people are stupid though. They voted for Hillary and Obama

Certainly not like Russian collusion. If it is a lie, one can hardly say it's a weak one. You there's plenty of circumstantial evidence that allows one to hold that belief. You know that as well as I.

You mean like the media and the government - they all think you are stupid. Most of the time they are right. The media aims at the lowest common denominator and the government knows so much more than you and they know you can't handle the truth.

Had it happened during the previous administration it wouldn't have even made the news cycle. Fox would have screamed about it for months but nobody really pays attention to them.

Even the tribes are attacking one another. Paul Ryan opened a can of worms by dismissing the Catholic priest who did the prayers in the House. Another member stated that the person taking his place, should have a wife and kids.... which excludes.... Catholic priests. Now the Catholic members of the House are asking questions.

I guess I don't really understand the full story. Haven't heard about it. Don't really care much. But from this little bit of context it sounds to me like an excuse for two groups to have a trivial argument about something. Seems like a simple solution. Have the house vote on who will do the prayers, or maybe have someone from each of the religions representative in the House membership tag team it. But no. Let's make molehills into mountains.

Guiliani apparently is part of #TheResistence. The things he said the other day essentially made the president a liar... but I'm not sure that moves the needle. Everyone knows he lies like on a scale not seen since.... since... uhhh... nevermind. He lies all the time.

That's not indicative of anything of the sort. It seems Occam's razor has some utility here. It takes fewer assumptions to believe that admitting he lied is preferable to the implications of him telling the truth.

So... using the Starr investigation as a template, would providing false testimony under oath - such as in an affidavit - be an impeachable offense?

We know he lied to the public, which is generally not impeachable. But, if he signed something that was false....

Oh, or if he signed something under and assumed name.

If he's just had relations with a pr0n star, that's whatever (to most people, apparently). But, the cover up of that kind of thing is difficult to navigate for even the most experienced of boatmen.

Guiliani said that Trump paid back Cohen by the end of 2017. It that's true, he was actively still engaged in a criminal enterprise. The criminal enterprise being knowingly engaging in something that violated campaign finance rules. Assuming that case can be made... and it sure did seem like Guiliani made that case.

The campaign finance angle is a leap I still cannot make. That also appears to be the strategic firewall. "He's a lying, philandering schmuck, but his campaign financials were untainted."

Unless and until we know where the money came from - which the FEC should be able to determine - I don't think that's the path to the criminal offense.

Did you watch Guiliani's interview on Fox?

    No. :)

But... uh... its gotten picked up in a couple other places. ;) My understanding is that he said he didn't know where the money came from. But it didn't come from the campaign.

Yeah, he did say that. But in that interview he talks about Cohen payment and the Stormy affair saying: "However, imagine if that came out on October 15, 2016 in the middle of the last debate with Hillary Clinton."
That sure as hell seems like an admission that this payment benefited the Trump campaign. Is it not. Would a discerning eye say "Nope, that payment wasn't made to help the Trump campaign." I guess I should ask could that be said with a straight face.

I think you and I have disagreed on the "does it benefit the campaign" test for a violation before. :) If it were, the MSM would be guilty in every cycle. They often "control" the timing of certain news.

The fact he used his own money would be more of a defense. It seems like the examples of when a candidate has had to reimburse the campaign for expenses that were considered "personal" would be applicable.

    https://www.fec.gov/help-candidates-and-committees/making-disbursements/personal-use/

A candidate must pay for their entertainment with personal expenses. ;) I think that would apply even if the campaign derived a benefit from it.

Bottom line. Is paying off a lawyer who paid off a hooker a high crime? Is that now the bar we're going for? If it is, okay. The each side will now and forever dig deep into the personal life of the other, and that's the new standard for impeachment.

Because. We all understand that impeachment is the goal.

Hasn't it been that way at least since Clinton? (Bill.)

I'm so tired of all the damn whiney cry baby trump haters. Not just trump haters but people who would be happy to see our country fail for absolutely no reason other than for their own selfish pleasure. The Democrat party of zero morals, zero backbone, zero patriotism, zero loyalty, just zeros, yet they want to talk about morals and rule of law when they believe they can use it against an opinent. Seriously, get a damn life. Russia was a big lie upon lie and intentional sideshow cooked up by criminals who are going to jail from the Democrat side. Constant harping and moaning and attempts to thwart rule of law. It's like watching my toddler throw a fit when they dont get what they want. So it's time for a spanking.
Get a damn life. Trump will be reelected again. The Democrats are not going to take either house of Congress in November and yet they will continue to try and make our republic fail for their own selfish pleasure because they ****ing lost fair and square but they cant gwt that through their thick skulls because they are the party of participation trophies and socialism.
Let's just hurry up and get it on already. I'm tired of the dog and pony show
