My FFL dealer's book has a number he wrote on it that was for calling to check if a gun was stolen. Never asked how he got that number.

Your FFL dealer probably was given that same number to call to check for stolen firearms. Could ask whether that's possible.

Someone else said it, if you are questioning the deal walk away. An aquaintance of my daughter wanted to show me the S&W .357 he had just purchased. I asked how much he paid as he was handing it to me, his response $75!!! He almost dropped it because I pulled my hand back that quickly. I told him the gun was stolen and of course the story was that the "dude" needed some quick cash. I offered to pay him the $75 for it but that I was headed straight to the cops with it and would tell them everything that had occured if it came up hot. He told me a few weeks later that he got his money back for it. Apparently he was smarter than I gave him credit for.
