My oldest finished up Basic Training today at Fort Jackson.

He'll be heading to Fort Sam Houston tomorrow where he will start his AIT for Combat Medic.

My daughter did her basic at Ft. Jackson. Congrats to him. It was a real bummer getting in and getting a parking spot on time. My wife said we should have plenty of time if we leave a half hour early.

yeah, we left the hotel at 0800 on both days to make sure we got there early enough.

You did good work, Hickman. I am certain he will make a fine 68W.

How far is he going? Has he thought of anything like IPAP yet?

If you need recommendations for dining or entertainment in San Antonio when you go see him, let me know.

    This gives us all ...

... that good old natural warm feeling deep in the heart. There's just something comforting to an old vet who sees a young vet following The Oath. "Sleep in safety tonight, for .. men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do you harm." G. Orwell -- attributed.
congrats! you should be proud to have a kid willing to sacrifice some of his own personal freedoms to help insure ours.

My son just finished up 8 years in the Marine Corps. We're glad he's done with that part of his life. Your son has done a very selfless and heroic thing, congratulations to him and your family, may God keep him safe and bring him back to you soon.

Awesome! I graduated basic there in 86 and got to travel all the way across post for AIT. Ahh, tank hill, how I hated thee.
What was his unit? I was B-9-2 for basic.
