Applied on a broader scale, this is a really good idea. Americans are already self-organizing politically and ideologically; it makes a lot of sense to enact this division geographically as well. There's enough space to do a more fine-grained sort than just liberal or conservative.

I take the opposite approach. I advocate reverse-secession. It is OUR republic with a Constitution that suits us, not those who twist and ignore it which stands as the supreme law, fact notwithstanding that it is broken often and severely. Corral them geographically and kick their sorry asses out. There is no reasons why we should leave what is rightfully ours when we are the ones going by the rules.

Excellent point, though secession in and of itself is not the act of making war against any government, it is merely separating oneself from it. It's when people talk about going beyond simple departure from the present country that we cross that line.
