Great, nuclear reaction powered ramjets on cruise missiles - the catastrophic failure of which detectably raised radioactivity levels in the west and contaminated the test area. If the explaination of the power system is accurate, just how hot does that reactor have to get to power the hypersonic expansion of the heated gases

The US looked into this years ago when everybody was trying to make a "nuclear airplane" so a couple of test reactors were built and tested before the idea was discarded. I think Ben Rich's book on the stealth fighter has a few pages on this.

Isn't that the one where they couldn't adequately shield the pilots or it would be too heavy to fly, so they brought pilots in their 50s and 60s out of retirement to be test pilots because it was thought they would die of natural causes before the radiation killed them?

I think that it was the Soviet project that had those problems. The NB-36H only had a 1 megawatt reactor hung in the bomb bay to see what kind of shielding had a chance to be effective. Whenever it flew, the NB-36H was accompanied by other aircraft carrying a radiation safety team in case of a crash.

If you can find a copy of Jay Miller’s ”The X-Planes: X-1 to X-45” (the Third Edition; the First Edition that I bought years ago at the Wright-Patterson gift shop only went up to the X-29), there’s a chapter on the (never-built) X-6 that discusses the NB-36H.

AOC worries about the CO2 emitted by kerosene-burning jet engines. Her tiny little mind would explode at the thought of a bunch of radioactive hot air being used to produce thrust.

Putting this here, because it pulls together a couple things:

French media reporting that Chinese forces have pushed closer to the border of Hong Kong.

RT (formerly Russia Times) is reporting a clash along the Kashmir front killed 5 Indian soldiers and 3 Pakistanis.

And now Turkey says it will make its own smart bombs and won't accept not having nukes.
    Yeehah!

    Could be anywhere
When I was in Turkey 9 out of 10 Turks liked Americans but that 10th wanted to kill you. Now those 9 have been purged from official positions...time to purge them from NATO.
