The USAF has intercepted a lot of those. If you see pictures of F-15s with “IS” on the tail that’s the 57th fighter interceptor squadron out of Iceland back in the day. 1989 saw 120 intercepts .

IMHO, there is something a bit different about this one - the Aleutians. Russian sourcing apparently says that the Soviet...err... Russian bomber/fighter escort flew along the "northern" coast of the Aleutians. That's REALLY far out there.

My impression is that the Russian flights more generally fly along mainland Alaska. The Aleutian sorties are less common.

It is my understanding that there were over 60 intercepts in that area from 2007 to 2017, with the last being in 2017

And they just intercepted an RC135 in the same area (the 'ADIZs' maintained by both countries) two weeks ago
