Is the this start of WWIII? I thnk that's highly unlikely.

What Putin has done is to secure the port where the Black Sea fleet calls home. Russia doesn't have too many warm water ports so their naval base there is important to them. Russia has done pretty much the exact same thing we would have done under similar circumstances.

What I have a problem with is Obama making BS threats. That moron is as dumb as a box of rocks if he thinks his weaselly little arse could intimidate a real man like Putin. Putin will eat Obamas lunch on the political battlefield... He has made good sport of making the anointed one look like an utter bafoon time and time again.

Obama doesn't have the stones to land Marines in the Ukriane and Putin knows it.

All you're witnessing is Obama further demonstrating he's the most incompetent president we've seen in the last 40 some years, easily eclipsing Carter in sheer stupidity.

Russian forces control the entirety of Crimea. It has gone way beyond the port protection argument. What you have suggested is a perfectly reasonable action is the violation of sovereign soil. I don't suppose you would be as nearly as forgiving if one of the member UN nations decided to take control of NYC so that it could protect the UN building and its consulate there. That is essentially what Russia is doing.

And apparently China is taking sides in this as well. Their side of course, but for the interim it happens to be Russia's side as well. Russia And China 'In Agreement' Over Ukraine

Would not have anything to do with Neo Nazi's removing every elected official and replacing them with Svoboda party members? It is also why Germany has yet to support the USA in declaring Russian action illegal.Remember the diplomatic "F the EU"? That was because the EU did not want Svoboda in charge of anything. Now they control the entire western government and have replaced nearly every elected official in the country.

Flashback to 2012.EU Parliament statement on the Svoboda party.Straight from the EU parliament page.Elections failed to bring Ukraine closer to the EU, say MEPs

MEPs voice concerns about the rising nationalistic sentiment in Ukraine which led to the election of the "Svoboda" Party to the Parliament of Ukraine. The EP recalls that racist, anti-Semitic and xenophobic views go against the EU’s fundamental values and principles and it appeals to pro-democratic parties in the Ukrainian Parliament not to associate with, endorse or form coalitions with this party.

But I guess that did not mean they can't take over the government in its entirety? It is not as simple as Russia invading another country as our media is stating. The situation is much more complicated.Even the EU does not want Svoboda in charge, especially in light of them stating Ukraine could be a nuclear power again in 3-6 months(they do have the largest nuclear power plant in Europe).

We’ll regain our status as a nuclear power and that’ll change the conversation. Ukraine has all the technological means needed to create a nuclear arsenal – which would take us about three to six months,” Svoboda party MP Mikhail Golovko said(Yesterday in the Ukrainian parliament...note how most of the seats are now empty.Only Svoboda members are present).

    I'll ask it again:

What would you have the United States government do?

I'm of the opinion that NK needs the **** beat out of it. The world tells them to stop launching missiles, and they continue launching missiles.

In the case of Russia, it's about having balls. America has none right now. I'm not saying invade... but when you draw lines in the sand, you need to back that **** up with something.

Russia shouldn't even consider trying this stuff... if we had a stronger presence and President. But, when you make empty threats, it just keeps showing the world that we won't do anything about it.

So, to answer your question, I'd have the US Gov be stronger... thus other countries wouldn't bother trying this stuff in the first place.

I'm not commentating on the whys and wherefors. Just on the observation that this is an innocent move on the part of Russia to protect its precious port. It's much more than that as Russia doesn't need to take all of Crimea to protect a port.

How do you define "stronger" and given that, how strong does the U.S. need to be to keep other countries from bothering to try stuff?

What do you think Ray-Gun would have done in this instance?

Not have a history of weakness. Not wear mom-pants to a baseball game, and throw like a girl, and be a community organizer, and be all words/no action.

It's your demeanor. It's how you handle yourself and your actions.

Our President is all talk, and no action... so other countries know they can get away with whatever they like. How you think that Syria chem weapons thing played out? They didn't do anything we told them to do.

Iran? Still building nukes. Norks still launching missiles. Russia still invading Ukraine.

The way Russian troops are moving in Crimea makes you wonder just how long they've had these plans in place. (Hint: Years.)

We need a President that other countries are afraid of. At some point he needs to realize his words are not a superpower. Every time he goes on TV telling other nations to stop doing something, the world rolls their eyes. He is a coward, he is not the Leader of the Free World.

This is why we made such a big deal out of Benghazi. The incompetence is systematic in this Obama administration. Americans are in danger.

You need to remember that the media is just confused since president mom jeans made a fool of himself with Syria, and now he looks silly compared to big rooster putin. Instead of calling putin names like their childish demographic prefers, they should have been running pics of mom jeans killing a deer with his bare hands...

It's all about controlling the narrative, right? Obama should gotten on the tube, said we'd back the EU and NATO in what they decided was the best course of action and been done.

not really a solution to the problem today?

There is no solution today. It'd be nice if he understood that he can't do anything about this. Rather than be shocked that his words didn't fix it. What frightens me is the shock in Washington that his nice speeches and pleasant voice didn't change Putin and Russia.
