The Arctic will actually be a big deal in the future. The ice caps will melt, and when they do, their will be a mad dash for the oil that is very likely underneath. Serious oil, not that tar sands bs. This will be the put 1 barrel in, get 100 barrels out type of oil find. In addition to the oil, the Arctic will be a much faster shipping lane than the Panama Canal or going around South America. Whoever controls the Arctic will get serious tax revenue from shipping traffic.

Bathhouse Barry is likely warming up another stern talking to for Putin.

He'll probably tell Putin he should mind the border.

Putin will tell bathhouse Barry he should mind his own southern border.

    More rhetoric about Novorossiya.
Why is Vladimir Putin Referring to Eastern Ukraine as 'New Russia'?

In a new statement, the Kremlin has detailed Russian President Vladimir Putin's address to pro-Russian separatists battling Kiev's force in eastern Ukraine, which referred to the rebels as "the militia of New Russia" or "Novorossiya".
This term is not a new addition to the Russian leader's personal lexicon. In a televised question and answer session in April in the midst of the Crimea crisis, Putin told the audience, in reference to the restive eastern regions of Ukraine: "It's new Russia."

    Aaaand:
    http://www.bbc.com/news/business-28986360

The rouble fell to 37.03 per dollar on Friday, its worst valuation since the currency was restructured in 1998.
The tumble comes weeks after Russia's central bank pledged to intervene less in the currency's valuation.

Economically, Russia grows weaker. That's a bad thing.

Yea....I've noticed how Putin and his government seem REALLY nervous...particularly as Germany has announced that the EU is now willing to accept a decision by Ukraine to join the Eurasian Customs Union if it chooses to do so.

Putin recognizes a weak excuse for leadership and resolve when he sees it.

    Hint: Ukraine is done.

The west will never so much as lay a hand on Russia, no matter how much belly aching they do in front of a microphone. They are scared to death that Putin may just play a wildcard and go after Saudi Arabia.

Ah...using weak leadership to rationalize even weaker leadership. One cannot help but wonder what, by such rationalization, will be passed off as leadership tomorrow.

To be sure, Barry is not the real risk.

A citizenry that would choose to elect him, however, is another matter.

But it does indicate that the sanctions, as weak as they are, are having an effect.

Sure - the law of unintended consequences.

The idea of sanctions is to create economic hardship.

Which is fine, when the target is contained militarily. Otherwise, it becomes easier to rationalize taking over neighboring economies.

Again, it comes back to the lack of comprehensive policy. Instead, we have half-actions without a meaningful plan.

Plus, in this specific situation, Obama has projected weakness, which works to invite the opponent's military action.

Apparently Russia just struck a Ukrainian coast guard vessel. Plenty of videos of the strike.

This is going to end up being major news here soon, not many places have the story up yet so this will have to do for now.

Ukrainian Coast Guard Attacked Near Russian Border, Some Killed | Zero Hedge

I have my own guesses regarding what actually unfolded here but I'll reserve judgment until I see further evidence.

Just wait until bathhouse Barry catches wind of this. He is going to have some stern words...once he returns from a weekend jam packed with three fundraisers and maybe a round or two of golf. Then Putin will really be shaking in his boots!

Pssst...here is a clue for you. The whole world is a broken record.

For example, when a strong man sees a candy ass, he tends to take advantage.
