    Two things:

    1. None of those is an "indisputable fact" - at least, not in the context of demonstrating empirical support for the practice of DST.

    2. It is mostly an interesting topic of conversation for me. I think I had only 2 clocks that required manually changing. Other than that I maintain that it is a pointless, silly practice, except for the hour I lost last night, I don't lose any sleep over it.

    I agree with this.
I have seen no proof of indisputable fact.

I had the pleasure this morning of changing the time on several touch screen while they were controlling the level of liquid steel in the Tundish Box.
    Took awhile.
Because, well the screens are controlling liquid steel level, duh.
I was a bit apprehensive, because we don't have directions on the procedure.
I just remember being shown it a few years ago.
There is a hidden button on the screen, to keep the operators out.
But I couldn't remember where the button was.
Or, if I had to push it and let go.
Or push and hold for ? seconds.
Or tap ? amount of times.

    Fun was had by all.

Glad you solved it and can tell us about it...

This DST stuff really got stressful for me, I finished work, worked around the place, then the stress of trying to decide what to do with a couple more hours of daylight. I settled on a cigar and a beer in the warm sun, then cooked steaks, in the twilight that did not exist at that same time yesterday, for dinner. Yep, stressing...

I know that your wisdom rivals God , but I gave up nothing during the four months of short days.

Now that we again start into long days vs nights, I'll take the extra hour. After business hours, at the end of the day. Thank you! ;)

Whether you gave it up or simply consent wholeheartedly and celebrate shifting the hour of sunlight away from your evenings for 4 months, that hour still isn't "extra" the other 8 months.

I blame the government for my 2yr old not wanting to go to bed at his normal time. I could be pantsless, eating cheetos and watching startrek right now and it's the government's fault I'm not.
    That is all.

Uh I believe the lyrics are "Eat some Cheetos and watch some PORN" Not Star Trek. Of course I've always heard different "strokes" for different folks!

As the rest of the world continues to abandon the silly biannual practice of shifting all the schedules back and forth, along with the associated "coonfingering of the clocks", the few remaining proponents of perpetual changes are truly on "borrowed time" here in the U.S.

That nonsense will be over soon and we can move on to discussing the unnecessary and antiquated tradition of time zones.

    Looking forward to it! :rockwoot:

Do you have one of those linky-thingys for your comment about the rest of the world abandoning DST?

It became clear to me from the video that DST is a largely European and US phenomenon because they are a longitude most affected by the the seasonal shift in daylight. It also made clear that many of the so called reasons for DST were just logic appeals to get DST in affluent areas for additional daylight for leisure activities, my reason for preferring it.

As for time zones, they were largely started for travel, originally trains, so they could run on time. It is an oversimplification to think we can all just run on GMT. If we did that then humans would constantly have to calculate when daylight was. So yes, we would never change clocks but mental adjustments would be needed. If one travels to the west coast your phone changes time and humans have a rudimentary understanding of when daylight will be by the time displayed. Without zones one must calculate when daylight is for that area. Nothing is a panacea.
