I will buff out if it's not too deep.

It is near impossible to find a used 1911 without the scratch.

I think people decide to sell them out of disappointment after they scratch the frame.

    Don't be that guy. :)

I bought my 1911 pre-idiot scratched, that way I wouldn't have to fret too much over it. :D

Oh if the previous owner could only see the marks I have on it now... The scratches and wear on a gun only add to the character and individualism of it.

    -edit-
Not mine, but a damn fine looking gun!

I'm digging the finish on that. It is hand crafted and a time consuming process but well worth it in the end. The results are a thing of beauty. :yesway:

My Sig 1911 still doesn't have an idiot mark after about 1000 rounds.

I'm considering adding one for character at this point. :):

How many "impossible" Colt 1911s would you like to see?
It's called an "IDIOT mark" for a reason. Don't be that guy.

Parkerized, of course is the easiest thing to mark. I was so careful, and it still happen. (very small mark) The RIA 1911 is shot alot, but still upsetting to mark it.
Best bet is to use a playing card.

Sorry I am a noob, but is the "idiot mark" just a scratch that is made from not doing it right?

When reassembling a 1911 you have reinstall the slide stop. To do this it takes a slight, somtimes a firm push in a slight upward and forward direction to overcome the plunger spring that holds it in place.

The "Idiot Mark" hapens when you slip and it scratches the frame just under the slide stop in a semi-circle fashion.

    Can you see it?

Its not nearly as bad as the one above. I acually had trouble taking a pic of it. Like I said Im not worried about it, Its gonna get scratched worse as I carry it.
