    To All,

I have my LTCH and normally do not carry, but have tremendous respect for those who do, either with CC or OC.

There are hypothetical arguments for and against each method of carrying a firearm. Neither side has a clear and distinctive edge over the other. Personal comfort by the carrier should guide them toward making their decision.

However, there is an extremely potential for positive results from OCing. That being interaction by with the public about our rights and liberties.

Several weeks ago I went to a meetup on the south side of Indy. At the end of the meetup we went outside and were chatting when an elderly lady came up very politely and approached RedneckReject to ask a question about the pistol she was OCing. We all had a very nice conversation with this woman about firearms and firearms laws in Indiana. She was very kind and open to this. I also noticed several other customers who were leaving the restaurant take note of the folks that were OCing. Their observation without interaction in and of itself may have caused them to investigate for themselves what their rights are in Indiana. Even IF it did not, it helped illustrate to them that someone carrying a firearm was not inherently dangerous and threatening.

What we see every day can desensitize us to potentially uncomfortable reactions. By having people see firearms more often this can help others who do not carry become more accustomed and less hostile to firearms. This is naturally balanced with the potential for calls to LE about said carrying, along with the argument that you may be targeted first. I personally see this as somewhat of a straw man argument. Do we really think that criminals are so observant and intuitive that they target OCers with great accuracy and high skill? Really?

All in all, I see the benefits of OCing outweighing the benefits of CCing, but naturally there are some negatives to OCing. I think those negatives are minimal when compared to the positives, but that is just me.

    Regards,

    Doug
