Hopefully, we can at least get something good for him.
The Colts aren't trading JT. (And Irsay has already said so, definitively.)

The Colts can't get scraps for an RB on the trade market right now. They know that, and JT should know that. If they simply keep him and then non-exclusive tag him next offseason, they get two first round picks in compensation if someone signs him.

It depends on how likely he is to sit out. If the Colts believe he is willing to sit out the entire season, then it might be better to get something for him now instead of getting nothing for him later. Having a player on the team that doesn't want to be there sometimes doesn't go well for either side.
As soon as the Colts activate JT from the PUP, he gets fined $50K per day if he sits out. He's not doing that. He can't afford to do that, either financially, or in his bid to showcase to other potential teams that he deserves the bag he (reportedly, absurdly) thinks he deserves.

Yeah, I know you're right. I was just disappointed about the situation last night and wasn't thinking it through all the way. I think JT's biggest problem right now is his agent. He needs to find someone that will give him better advice.

It just keeps getting better and better.

If they NFI him, he doesn't get paid, and if he doesn't play the entire season, his contract tolls to 2024. So they'd still have him under contract.
So basically he has no leverage in a dismal RB market, coming back from an injury last year and is injured now? And if placed on the NFI list could potentially in essence by default extend his contract another year? Do I get that right?

Random thoughts on the RB issue.

College‘s are producing more RB’s than the NFL needs.

Teams have figured out that they can fill the position with RB’s on the rookie contracts and do not have to pay big bucks to the vets, thus saving money for other positions.

The rookie salary deal the players union agreed to hurts RB’s the most, as they have fairly short careers so the teams get the value at a low cost and move on.

The vet RB’s are wanting $15 million and teams are getting getting good backs for under $3 million. That some are willing to pay the vets $8 million is remarkable.

The dance with Elliott and Cook is all about teams trying to convince them to join them and win not paying them what they want.

I'm not much of a Greg Doyel fan, but I think he hits the nail on the head here. Too much of a coincidence that this all started with a new agent.

Colts running back Jonathan Taylor completed his 180-degree pivot from face-of-the-franchise to jackass Saturday when he asked Colts owner Jim Irsay for a trade, the latest and least surprising escalation in a conflict that has little to do with Taylor and less to do with the Colts.

The star of this immorality play is Taylor’s new agent, some dude named Malki Kawa, who promises on his website to get things done for his clients. Good news, Malki: You can show future clients just what you've done for Taylor:

From Colts protagonist to pariah in two months.

    Impressive, really.

    And JT reportedly wants $20MM.
