My aunt used to make apple pies with golden delicious apples and they were JUST ****ING AWESOME!

Not too sweet and just enough tartness to blend with the sweetness. Golden delicious can get a little mushy when cooked but she had some trick she used to keep them just the right consistency out of the oven. And the crust was... I think I need to check my blood sugar.

Anyway she died 20 years ago taking her recipe to the grave. I have yet to find an equal to her pie. She also took her biscuit recipe with her.

I used to use golden delicious, but have since found I prefer honeycrisp and pink ladies. Why use a tart apple and then bury it in sugar when you can simply use an apple with better flavor and sweetness?
