Not sure if it is related to your purchase. When we lived in Indiana we would go to the one in Hammond and they asked for our phone number at the register even for such things as clothing.

The one in Kentucky does it as well.

Yeah, they usually ask at the Cabelas in Noblesville and I just tell them "no thanks." A couple of times the cashier has just entered a number without even asking.

Its less nefarious than you think. The big reason at most retailers is to give you a way to return an item without a receipt.
