Bill Maher is a typical liberal pseudo-intellectual. There are some people in the world that are a waste of air and he is one of them. If he died today, the world would be a better place. This is the guy that made fun of Palin's handicapped child while his fans all laughed and cheered. So for the folks above that think he is intelligent, I guess we know what you find to be intelligent discourse.

Ok, he's evil, vile, and worthy of your wrath. I get that. But that doesn't have anything to do with intelligence. In other words, his intelligence is not proportional to your opinion of his moral worth.

People with little else in common get together weekly or more often (like church) to talk about guns, play with guns, practice with guns, not to mention write books, make forums, magazines, websites etc etc.
Shoot (pun intended) I've been lectured on this forum about how I have to proselytize (or preach) to the uninitiated, and to always show a good example so as not to put "Gunists" in a bad light.
You simply MUST donate to the NRA and support other gun groups to keep the faith going.
People put a high level of faith and/or trust in their guns to save them from evil (the bad guys).

I think I could go on. Yes, being a gun nut has many parallels to a religion.

Interestingly enough, Bill came out a few days ago and said "Hate to defend #RushLimbaugh but he apologized, liberals looking bad not accepting. Also hate intimidation by sponsor pullout."

That's what I'm talking about. Disagree with him if you want, but it's not like he treats one side one way, and the other side completely differently. That's the kind of intellectual honesty that cuts across political BS that I for one respect and appreciate.

He talks about gun worship, Hey Maher, The 2nd Amendment guaruntees the right to bear ARMS, not guns. Simply, the 2nd Amendment guaruntees us the right to defend ourselves with whatever the contemporary weapon of the time is. Yeah Maher the founding fathers had no idea that small arms technology would evolve in 235 years huh? GTFO with that assault weapons crap until you can define what an assault weapon is.

The right wing fantasy of overthrowing the US govt huh? Guess what Maher, countinsurgency operations are driven by intelligence not F-22s which are pure air-to-air dominance fighters, they don't do much good against an enemy that doesn't fly planes huh? Look at our recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Iraqis gave us fits with small arms, mortar rounds, propane tanks, cell phones, and washing machine timers. I absolutely would not support any sort of violent uprising against the United States, I mentioned all of that to point out what a moron Maher is.

Hey Maher, you admit that there are 300 million guns in this country, just how in the hell are you going to limit access to those guns? There is a demand for guns in this country, there is a huge supply of guns in this country. Figure it out Maher.

He's a pseudo-intellectual piece of trash who thinks he knows everything about everything. Afterall, he is a PETA freak, he sits on the board of directors at that nuthouse.

I lost all respect for him when he said the 9-11 hijackers were brave. And I gained some for ABC for firing him.

Saying that you lost respect for him implies that you had a certain degree of respect for him at some point, which means that you have likely never listened to that clown prior to his comment regarding the 9/11 hijackers. Maher's mouth is a s--- factory.

What most immediately angers me about what he said is that it's a load of presented with his usual smug self righteousness. But more deeply, because his message is calculated to meet a goal, to nudge "fence" viewers to see all gun owners as uneducated, illiterate idiots, who live in some apocalyptic dream world.

You can call him stupid if you want, but I think he's smart enough to know how to play the fools.

If Maher were intelligent, he would use factual arguments to support his positions, he doesn't. He makes up his own facts and compares apples to oranges. Maher is well-spoken and likes to hear himself talk about issues he knows nothing about, hence the term pseudo-intellectual.

Jeez, as I type this I can't believe I'm discussing Bill Mayer's intelligence. I don't really care. I just think calling him stupid isn't the most accurate insult to hurl at him.

People frequently bend or break facts to make their opponents look bad. It's just a tactic. Politicians do it all the time. Some of them are smart, some, not so much. Maher makes his living much the same way as Rush Limbaugh, stirring the pot; saying outrageous things, true or not, to provoke outrage. Seems like it's working for him.

I don't know if this is truly a bad thing or a good thing. Think about it; we could practice our religion freely, we would have legal recourse against jackboots and sheep, we could write them off on our taxes. So far "Guns As A Religion" sounds pretty good!!
