So bill gives $1M to an obama PAC because he's afraid we'll go back to the policies before obama took office. Not that the Bush administration's spending habits were all that great, but was the national debt BO (before obama) not high enough to satisfy him? Seems like spending money we don't have is as much a religion to be protected as he thinks guns are for us then.

As for Piers, he comes to the US and "can't fathom" how easy it is to obtain weapons here, as if it's foregone conclusion that the European model is what we should strive to be. As if they've reached Utopian civility.

Since the societal benefits of gun ownership are deeper than he can fathom, perhaps he should avoid such stress and go back to his Utopian home, where government is even more bloated than ours, gun ownership is considered ridiculous, and phone hacking paparazzi are acceptable.

As Ron White says "You can't fix stupid". Piers and Maher are two of the stupidest people on the planet. Maher is one of a very small number of human beings I would step over if he was lying on the ground injured.

I would not likely step over him.

If you didn't, you'd likely trip and fall right over the top of it and get it all over you. It'd take forever to get that smell off of you.;)

    Naa.....

I meant I would likely stomp in him.... several times.

It would be difficult for me to decline such an opportunity and simply step over him.

I find Bill Maher smug, but he does think a lot about his opinions, and I think he's pretty intelligent. I believe him to be wrong on at least half of the stuff he thinks, but I respect the process he took to arrive at those opinions. He is different from me in what he values, but he's honest and consistent about it.

I don't think he's wrong about guns being a religion in this country, either. And that's not a bad thing. Guns have a unique heritage and mythos in this country, for good or ill, and always will.

If he is wrong at least half of the time, his process isn't much better than flipping a coin.

No, maher is nothing more than a two bit jackass punk thug... with a good agent.

I can think of a lot of things I could rightly call Bill Maher and not feel like I'm unwilling to look at things for what they are. But, as much as I don't like him, I have to agree that he's not stupid. Obnoxiously annoying, yes. His opinion about how the world should be is much different from mine and he expresses it with hateful contempt. I'd rather not respond to him in like kind.

Also, I don't think he's right about guns being a religion although if he wants it that way, then as others have stated, we have two constitutional amendments that protect our rights of gun ownership.

If he is wrong at least half of the time, his process isn't much better than flipping a coin.

He's wrong in my opinion, which is not objective fact. As I said, he has different values than me. He's free to advocate for his values as much as I am for mine. Yay for America! And I don't disagree that the gun culture in America resembles a religion, and I don't have a problem with that. I'd say football, too, is a religion, as well as basketball in Indiana. ;)

I respect intelligent people who can articulate their points well and spend time thinking about what they say. Maher can be very thoughtful and articulate, he just usually chooses to be controversial and entertaining because that's his literal job, and he works very hard at it. Honestly, I see him very much like Rush Limbaugh, who I also think is a smart guy though I think he crosses the line and is quite offensive from time to time, just like Bill. Or Neil Boortz. Or Jon Stewart. And unlike Glen Beck and Keith Olbermann. Those last two just don't have intellectually consistent and honest opinions and world view, so I respect them less.

Just my opinion, and my $0.02.

Bill Maher is a typical liberal pseudo-intellectual. There are some people in the world that are a waste of air and he is one of them. If he died today, the world would be a better place. This is the guy that made fun of Palin's handicapped child while his fans all laughed and cheered. So for the folks above that think he is intelligent, I guess we know what you find to be intelligent discourse.

Interestingly enough, Bill came out a few days ago and said "Hate to defend #RushLimbaugh but he apologized, liberals looking bad not accepting. Also hate intimidation by sponsor pullout."

That's what I'm talking about. Disagree with him if you want, but it's not like he treats one side one way, and the other side completely differently. That's the kind of intellectual honesty that cuts across political BS that I for one respect and appreciate.
