The logic of not spending a bit extra for a reliable battle rifle because you won't shoot it much is not really making sense to me. It makes sense for a plinking rifle but as some have mentioned, presumably your life may depend on it. I'd save up another few months and buy once cry once.
Each guy would have to determine for himself the definition of "a bit extra" as well as "reliable". I have a Hi Point carbine that has fired every time I have pulled the trigger and has never misfed, ever. I have every reason to believe that, if my life depended on it, I am good to go! I am not at all concerned with whether or not this makes sense to you!

I built mine. I have $475 invested in it and love it.
I ordered a Delaware Mach. lower from R guns, bought a new LPK from a local store plus he had everything else used. The upper I bought looked brand new, its a Colt barrel on a unmarked receiver.
Now I built mine to save some money and I wanted a stock no frills A2.
Everyone says to buy your first and build your second, in my case I really don't want a second unless I can talk my wife into shooting it (unlikely).
So in a round about way I guess my point is -- Are you going to get a second one? if not Why not build your first the way you want it?
