I don't think Rayne has a rifle in the caliber she needs to get the free ammo deal. Rayne will have to confirm that but I think that is the case. If it is, borrowing is cool.

On the flip side she could call dibs on one of the loaner Veprs and go all Pavlichenko on the place. That would be kinda cool. She could also call dibs on a Tavor and no sling it and go all bullpup, door-kicker, come with me if you want to live.

    The possibilities are endless.

KirkD - Again, not trying to be a jerk or nuthin, but Doc and Jake have it right. I am SBing the Bedford shoot as well and it is a great time down there but when it comes to Atterbury, the Saturday's data is critical. Not only do you have to have the data, but you have to have the picture in your mind of the round's trajectory to get the benefit of the battlesightzero portion of the clinic. Making that transition is all about being able to look at your data from saturday, fully grasp the behavior of the rifle and round, and then put the book away and implement it using a single sight setting.

Saturday is about getting comeups for shooting your rifle with the same sight picture and different sight settings, collecting the data and executing 4 minutes of angle. Sunday is about taking that and using a single sight setting and different sight picture to master your rifle's full capabilities with speed and precision.

Its ferserious. Is it an evening wedding? i intend on having folks out of there by 5 on Sat.

Rayne - let me know what your rifle situation is. If you need a loaner to shoot free ammo, well, guns we got.

If you gots something in .223 or .308 bring the cruddyest one you got and follow YHJ's advice. He is nervous because my rifle is a Rifleman maker and everyone that touches it gets a patch. Its so easy Malea is bored with it and wants to take something different.

Everyone who reads this thread should understand something. Appleseed is not about what your gear costs. Its about self improvement. Come out and you will get better, guaranteed.

This is where you find out if YOU have what it takes to be a Rifleman.

If she needs something in .223 that is not a rifeman maker and will likely produce a day of severe learning - I've got one. Trust me.

Don't make us go that route Rayne... ;)

Yep, I'm going to need a loaner rifle. And when I meant sorted out, I meant zeroed in and that the sights worked and it functioned properly. So I don't have any equipment problems, I have enough software problems I don't need to add any other issues. I don't want anything other than that. No Data books, no hash marks or any such help. I'll do the work, but am a bit uncertain about taking a rifle I've never used and know nothing about and trying it out. But hey that's kinda what Appleseed is about. Take what you got and learn to use it.
At this point, I'm not worried about a patch, I just want to learn this known distance stuff.

Hammer - We have had it done before. Its tricky. the shorties were just not made for distance stuff. Last time we had one at Atterbury it seemed to fall apart a bit after 300. I was in the pits but I think bullet weight v. twist was something of an issue. the Wolf ammo will probably be the 55 gr stuff. If you find a longer upper, great, if not, we'll get 'er anyhow.

Don't give up Patty!! We're a month out. Paperwork doesn't have to be till the 7th of June. You got time to find the cash.

Think of it this way. Wolf is going to throw 250 rounds at you. You could sell 200 rounds of pretty much any caliber and put the cash together for this shoot. You sell 200 but GET 250 and in exchange you are on the best distance facility in the state with amazing rifle instructors.

ITS ALMOST LIKE WE'RE PAYING YOU TO BE THERE!!!!

Hard but not impossible. What caliber? .223?

I did not figure it would be easy, but if a guy can shoot a cricket at a regular shoot why not give it a go. :D

I'll try and find a longer upper, but either way I wanna do this shoot.

My property borders Atterburry, so it is real close for me. (automatic gun fire in the morning is music to my ears :biggun:)

I shot my infidel out to 400 no problems. it's only a 13.5 inch barrel. I say take it and see what it can do.

I am not however discouraging you from buying a new rifle lol you can always use another one!

This is definitely on the list of want to do. I'm seeing if my father wants to do this for Father's Day if I can fit it in. Here's to hoping.

This sounds really fun. How much ammo would I need for such an event? Is this the sort of thing I would want to bring my Remy bolt gun to, or carbine? Sorry for the stupid questions, but I'm a virgin to the Appleseed thing.

Well if you have a rifle in .223 or 308 you don't need to bring any ammo this time. If you are shooting a different caliber then I've read between 250 and 300 rounds.

I've shot both bolt action and semi automatic at Appleseeds. The question is does your remy have a detachable magazine or hold 10 rounds. My Remington 700 I took to my last KD was difficult to shoot because it holds 4+1. Which meant it then became a single shot rifle after the initial magazine load. This puts you at a disadvantage on the tight timed stages.

Techres has shot a rifleman's score with a single shot, I am trying too, it is very difficult and will put you at a disadvantage. Bring a rifle that you can learn with and can focus on mastering the skills then challenge yourself with a difficult rifle. I'm not an instructor, just an Appleseed junkie, so they may have a different opinion.

RWVA Project Appleseed - Camp Atterbury Registration Form

    READ EVERYTHING!!

RWVA registration can be found on Eventbright and must be completed the same as any other Appleseed event.
    Eventbright

In addition, you must read and complete the following form. The following information MUST be completed and turned in to in@appleseedinfo.org one week prior to your attendance. This information is is a requirement of Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center (CAJMTC) and this information will be shared with Military Police and the Range Control office. Your information will not be used in any manner other than to allow your admittance to the installation and to contact you regarding this event.

Please copy and paste the contents of this page into an email, fill in the required information, and return to in@appleseedinfo.org.

    __________________________________________

There some things about shooting at Camp Atterbury that you should be aware of, please read the following carefully.

1 - Start time - Checkin is at 7:30AM EDT. For those in most of Indiana, this is 7:30. For those in the Central time zone, it's 6:30 CDT. Safety briefing is at 8:00 sharp. We will not wait to get started. The day will be long and we can't afford to lose time here.

2 - CAJMTC firearms policy - No firearms. An exception is made for civilians for the firearms to be used on the range for an event. This means concealed carry is not allowed. If you or your vehicle are searched, your rifle information submitted by us is all that will be allowed on base. You will be turned away if not detained by Military Police and your event fees will not be refunded.

3 - Centerfire Rifle, Zeroed - Please make an effort to get a known zero prior to attending. 25m or 200 yds preferred but any known zero will work. if you are not zeroed we will make an attempt to get you there, but we will not delay instruction for you.

4 - 250-300 rounds of the same ammunition will be required, plan to carry 150+ rounds on you each day.

5 - The elements - The known distance ranges are not sheltered in any way. If it's sunny, you will be out in the sun. If raining, you'll be out in the rain. Bring what's appropriate for you and the forecasted weather. Layered clothing is best so that you can adjust to the changing temps. Events are not cancelled due to the weather(exception with extreme weather only. i.e. - tornado, severe storm/lightning). Do not bring portable shelter as the firing line will be moving frequently.

6 - Equipment: Sling, high powered binoculars or scope, two magazines, a way to take notes, ear and eye protection. Please note that ear and eye protection is required.

7 - Hydration - make sure to bring enough water/gatorade/etc.. to stay hydrated. It might be cool early in the day but the wind can take it out of you as fast as the heat.

8 - Food - There will be a designated time for lunch and history. Please bring what food you need. Leaving base for lunch is not an option and we will continue without anyone who is late returning from lunch. If everyone brings food that can be eaten on the fly, all the better.

9 - From the gate to the range control - Essentially, you continue through the cantonment area on the road you came in on. You will come to a stop sign across from the fire department. Range control is on your left. A $10.00 per day range fee is required from each shooter attending and a $10.00 charge for a clean databook, supplied by Appleseed.

    Finally, some notes from experience.

    • It can always rain in Indiana and rain gear is light, bring it.
    • A shooting mat should be that, not a tarp. Tarps blow around, require folding, collect rain. The U. S. Army has provided grass at every firing distance and you do not have to carry it. Leave the mat at home if you can and enjoy nature.
    • Power bars or Breakfast bars are your second best friend, bring several.
    • Water is your first best friend, start drinking an extra quart a day two days in advance. Bring two quarts each morning to the range.
    • A mesh or light cloth bag for collecting brass is very helpful. Snag an old pillow case when the spouse isn't looking.
    • You can get sunburned in the winter.
    • A hat with a bill rocks, extra socks don't hurt.
    • A clean rag is priceless when you need it.
    • Your rifle will get dirty, rained on, and scratched. Leave the safe queen at home, this event is for rifles you mean to shoot.
    • Don't bring cheap ammo for sighters and expensive ammo for score. Yes, it has happened, no it didn't end well.
    • Make sure your scope or sights are tight and lock tite was used. We have seen scopes fall off rifles, more than once.
    • Make your lunch light and nutritious, this is not the place for Snoballs and Diet Coke.
    • Dress as if you will be doing landscaping work all day, and your spouse will not let you back in the house until dark. Toss in rain gear and you will be fine. Seriously...
    • Bring everything you need and nothing you will not use.

__ I got it. <------------ YOU MUST READ THE ABOVE INFORMATION AND CHECK/MARK/X THIS ITEM.

Great, let's get the information we need to get you on the installation and on the range! Please fill out the information carefully, accuracy is important. If your information is incorrect we may not have time to contact you before the deadline to submit our list of attendees.
