What is the intended purpose of this rifle? How will you shoot it mostly? How far away do you want to hit things?

Even without knowing those things I will go ahead and recommend a new grip. Get rid of that stock A2. Even at $20 you can get an Ergo Suregrip or Magpul MOE. Best mod for the $$ IMO. If I did nothing else (yeah right. . . :D) to my AR I would still change out the grip.

If you do this first you'll probably know EXACTLY what to add/remove from your rifle after the first class. :D

Im goin with my buddy to do some shooting with it next week, he is a LEO and said he would help me out with getting use to the rifle. Im sure it will be a fun outing:rockwoot:

My Ar is primarily going to be for run-n-gun course. We are making one over at our farm. So that will be its primary purpose. Targets will be probably no further than 30 or 40 yrds at the furthest.

Re-Barrel it for 6.5 Grendel. (I really like the 19" Grendel barrels)

You'll turn your short range poodle gun into a 1000 yard rifle! Recoil is only slightly more than the 223/5.56 but bullet weights run up to 130 grains and are suitable for game as large as elk (with confirmed 1 shot/thru & thru kills at 400+ yards).

At 400 yards the Grendel still retains over 1000 foot pounds of energy while the 5.56 military load barely carries that amount of energy past 100 yards. For comparison, the 6.8 SPC II factory loads carry 1000 foot pounds of energy out to about 240 yards and the 7.62 NATO (308 Win) carries it out to about 525 yards.

you need one of these for those bumps in the night:
    www.Elzetta.com

I just got in some of the Zorm mounts and the ZFL M60 2 cell w/strike bezel with the high/strobe mode. Its the only light I know that will stand up to a shotgun blast!(saw it on a review video)

that would be cool but thats why I got my 300 Win Mag,lol. This is going to be for run-n-gun, So it probably wont go past 100 yrds at the very most

While the 300 Win Mag is a better 1000 yard cartridge than the 6.5 Grendel, you can't feed a 300 Win Mag through an AR15. Plus, the recoil energy of the 300 Win Mag is about 4x the recoil of the Grendels. But at 1000 yards the 6.5 Grendel will actually out-perform a 308 Win/7.62 Nato.

I realize its for a run-n-gun course but if you set up steel tip over targets or similar then the Grendel will give you significantly more energy on the target than a 5.56 without much more recoil.
