Looks to me that Applebees (at least in Fort Wayne) is not gun friendly. Doesn't even have to be real to get kicked out.

    Customer ‘armed’ with belt buckle

Fort Wayne police, guns drawn, confronted an Applebee’s patron Thursday after a manager mistook his pistol-shaped belt buckle for the real thing.

The man’s jean shorts sagged to his mid-thigh and his T-shirt partly covered the life-size gold-plated diamond-studded belt buckle replica of a Colt .45 and even made the officer do a double take, according to a police report.

When the officer told the man that wearing such a realistic-looking belt buckle was likely to cause a stir, the man replied that he would gladly wave at the officer the next time a concerned citizen called the police, according to the report.

The manager then asked police to escort the man out of the restaurant at 4510 N. Clinton St. but was sure to say he was welcome to come back – so long as he was not wearing any guns, fake or otherwise, according to the report.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around this story.

The guy is wearing a belt buckle and the police escort him out? Surely he must have been doing something else?

Heaven forbid someone goes in there with a gun image printed on their T-shirt, certainly the SWAT team would be called out for that!

Seriously, on what grounds would the police have to remove the guy from Applebees? I have to figure the guy was being an obnoxious jerk. The gun belt buckle was probably just an excuse used to remove him.

Doesn't a business have the right to refuse service to anyone? Not that I agree with this Applebees but I don't see how he could sue.

Yes a business can refuse service to anyone, but if a reason is stated or can be proven in court which is unacceptable, then the business may not be in business much longer (for instance: race).

By the way, my restaurant is gun friendly as long as you don't do something stupid like take the gun out of the holster :draw:. As a matter of fact, a police training center is located next to my restaurant. They are in and out of my store all day. I'd be a fool to refuse service to everyone who came into my store open carrying. If I did that, I'd be kicking people out all day long.

They do, but these days that's case for public humiliation. Not saying its airtight but I cant understand why they would leave themselves wide open for it. I think something else was afoot otherwise he could have just taken it off.

Just one more reason to pass on Applebee's.
People keep telling us how great they are and we've tried a few in different areas and ALWAYS had a bad experience.
Bad service, bad food, bad wait-staff, cashiers who can't count money, you name it.
The last straw was the most recent one we went to... the hostess walked us to the table to seat us and it was still dirty. I don't mean "a smear here or there" (which is yucky in itself!), I mean a jumble of dishes and food scraps from the previous occupant and BBQ sauce all over the booth seat.
We said, "uh..don't you need to have the table bussed first?" and she said, "oh, they'll be along in a few minutes".

Don't really care becuase I have never had good service at any applebee's not even in other states. I think it is corporate wide to have really horrible service. That's okay, I gladly do not tip and keeps my wallet a little thicker.

I'm with you. I refuse to go to Applebees because of their terrible food.

I agree with others that there is probably more to this story.

I have oc'd in the Applebees in the greenwood mall a few times and have not had a problem as of yet. Although the service has been lacking in good quality the last couple times there.

If I get around to it I'll call corporate for Applebees to see what their policy is regarding firearms. If they are okay with carrying cc or oc maybe a get together in Ft Wayne is in order.

While I'm also sure there is always more to the story, my biggest concern was the managers statement,

The manager then asked police to escort the man out of the restaurant at 4510 N. Clinton St. but was sure to say he was welcome to come back – so long as he was not wearing any guns, fake or otherwise, according to the report.
    ,

with him saying he was ok to come back would indicate to me that the guy wasn't causing a problem/disturbance, the problem was a fake gun belt buckle.

But I of course you can't always believe whats in the newspapers, so who knows.

If I get around to it I'll call corporate for Applebees to see what their policy is regarding firearms.

That would great if you can find out.
