I've seen 2" mortars break 3/8" ceramic tiles (when launched from the top of a very expensive table) so it's not a stretch to believe this could also kill a person.

Technically they all "blow up" and it's a damn sight more alluring than "man killed when firework works properly". Just more sensationalistic "journalism".

If you put the shell/projectile in the tube upside down it will blow the charge and the display will go off in the tube. Ask me how I know......go ahead.....ask......
